Chapter 29

Lauren's eyes flutter open slowly. She takes a deep breath, immediately feeling Camila's arm around her stomach tighten in response. She turns around carefully and watches her girlfriend sleep for a few minutes. She notices that the astronaut looks different. Under normal circumstances she looks peaceful when she sleeps. But now she sleeps with a deep frown and her lips tightly pressed together.

Lauren sighs and leans forward to press a kiss against her cheek. Only now does she notice the lack of clothes on both of them, and she can't suppress a small smile. It wouldn't be the first thing on Lauren's mind; having sex while your child is missing. But for some reason it seemed like they needed last night to happen.

They needed to feel that they were in this together instead of only speaking the words. They needed to feel reassurance instead of only seeing it in each other's eyes. They needed somebody to understand and to comfort. To distract.

It might have been a bad timing, but Lauren couldn't have asked for any other moment. Last night, she truly felt Camila was going to stand by her side. Not just through this, but through everything they have yet to face in the future. Their future together. And Lauren can't be more grateful for that feeling of comfort, of support throughout all their misery and worries in this whole situation.

She reaches out to tuck a strand of dark hair back behind Camila's ear, but the lack of gravity makes it float upwards again within a second. Then she looks over and watches the digital clock above the bedroom door. Her eyes widen, they have slept for almost 7 hours!

''Camz!'' Lauren calls out immediately, remembering that Roy was supposed to call in after four hours. They must have slept through it.

''Camila, baby, wake up. We have to check if there's any news.'' Lauren says to her, unclipping the blanket from the mattress impatiently.

''Hmm whttime s it?'' Camila mutters tiredly, rubbing her eyes with a yawn.

''3 hours past the end of Roy's meeting.'' Lauren answers, loosening the belts around their waists and legs to be able to get out of bed.

''Shit..'' Camila mumbles, moving to sit up but immediately feeling herself float up. ''Damn I forgot..'' she says with a chuckle, looking down at Lauren's naked body in front of her. ''You're perfect.'' She breathes out.

Lauren turns to look at her, fishing her underwear out of the air while a blush makes its way to her face. ''You too.'' She mutters back, leaning over to press a kiss against her girlfriend's lips before starting to get dressed quickly.

Camila smiles at her for a moment longer before jumping into action as well and throwing her clothes back on. Within a few moments they're both dressed, the bed is made up and breakfast is served. Which is basically still those tasteless bottles of astronaut food.

Camila hits the call button to the communication room as soon as they're both in front of the screen and they wait impatiently for somebody to pick up.

After a few rings, Roy's tired face pops up on their screen and Camila swallows in anticipation. He looks exhausted, which could mean he's been up all night to try to convince other space organizations to help them get back down to earth.

''Roy, is there any news about Kyano?'' Lauren asks before Camila can do as much as open her mouth. But her boss shakes his head sadly.

''I'm afraid not, that's why we let you guys sleep. Everything is in the works right now and the only thing we can do is wait. Especially you up there.'' He tells them and a wave of disappointment and sadness hits both Lauren and Camila. They had wished there was at least some progress in regards to their son.
