Chapter 30

''Are you sure you want to read this?'' Lauren asks, wrapping her arms around Camila's waist, who is strapping the seatbelts around them so they can sit together in one of the chairs.

''No..'' Camila trails off, reaching for her laptop and settling back into Lauren's lap. The technician immediately tightens her grip around her girlfriend's middle, trying her best to provide some sort of comfort and safety because she knows what they're about to read is going to be hard.

''You know you don't have to Camz. Maybe it's better if you don't read it..'' Lauren mutters against her ear, pressing a kiss against the brown-eyed girl's cheek right after.

Camila sighs and closes her eyes for a moment, trying to relish in the feeling of being wrapped up in Lauren's arms, blissfully unaware of what happened between her and Brody that night. Maybe Lauren is right, and maybe it's better not to know certain things. But after all these years, Camila just has to know. The events of that night are gnawing on her. Not knowing what happened might save her some pain, but it is also terrifying.

''I have to.'' She whispers and not a second later she feels Lauren nod her head against hers in support.

''Okay, if that's what you need to do. Let's just promise right now that no matter what that email says, it won't change anything between us. And let's not forget that Brody has been capable of taking Kyano with him, which means he's also capable of lying about that night.'' Lauren stresses, looking into Camila's eyes when she turns her head towards her.

''You're right. I promise.'' Camila answers with a nod before leaning in to press a reassuring kiss against her girlfriend's lips.

''Okay.''

''You have to read it though.'' Camila says, turning the laptop in her hands so Lauren can read it while she curls up into her girlfriend even more as nerves are almost paralyzing her. Lauren presses a kiss against her head and clears her throat while opening the email.

Her hands are shaking and she tries to focus on the screen. She's about to find out what happened to her girlfriend that night and what Brody has done in response to that. She's going to find out exactly how her girlfriend and best friend betrayed her. She's afraid of the pain that might resurface because of this email, but she knows they have to do this. Camila needs an explanation of what happened to her and Lauren needs closure. No matter how hard this might be, they have to do this so they can move on from it once and for all.

''I love you.'' Camila whispers against her neck and Lauren takes a deep breath in response. She doesn't know whether Camila said it to reassure her before reading about her betrayal or as a preparation for what's about to come. But Lauren appreciates it either way and presses one last reassuring kiss against her temple before opening the email.

My dearest Lauren,

Firstly, I need you to know that Kyano is perfectly fine. You know I'm a good guy, I would never be able to hurt my son. Secondly, I really need you to understand that I'm doing this all for him and for you. You both deserve a life without Camila, trust me when I say you deserve way better than her.

Now I need you to understand what happened that night because I really need you to understand me. I was furious at Camila when you called me to tell me about your fight. It made me so angry to think that she had hurt you that badly. You were crying so much and my heart just broke for you. I've never approved of Camila when you told me you were dating her in the very beginning. But I was okay with it as long as she made you happy, I loved you enough to let that happen. But when she hurt you that night, I knew I had been right about her all along.
