Chapter 5:
I watched Lucas fix our drinks. The kitchen looks into the living room, the area is connected and separated only at the front door, there is a piece of wall between the two rooms that is used for the coat rack and keys.
"I honestly think that we are like Janis and Damian," Lucas claimed out of nowhere.
I turned and looked at him while he picked up the solo cups. "Yeah, except you're actually gay."
That made him laugh, almost spill the drinks, and trip over the blue rug that connected the rooms.
I love how he tries to pull off almost falling with a smile.
"I saw that," I murmured while he handed me my cup. He sits beside me and turns off the tv from our previous watching of 'Mean Girls'.
I looked up at the analog clock on the wall and set my cup down. "I've got to go. It's 8:48."
"Want me to take you home?"
I shook my head," my house isn't too far, remember?"
He nodded," don't get in cars with strangers.."
I laughed and grabbed my coat off the armchair I had thrown it over and picked my phone up off the table. "Lucas, I'm sorry about what I said. You know I didn't mean it."
"Hey, I don't even remember what happened. What are you talking about?" he said laughing and sporting a smile. I threw on my jacket and crossed my arms as I walked over to the door.
I looked over at him as I grabbed onto the doorknob and smiled. "You know you're the best friend anyone could ask for, right?" I admitted. "Yep, I know."
He walked over and hugged me tightly before I walked out of the door and into the freezing cold.
Turning at the end of his driveway, I regret not saying yes to a ride home. The cold isn't bad during day when the sun is shining but during the night it's like a huge freezer.
I walked the sidewalk down his road. We live in the suburbs, as much as I hate it, I grew up here and learned to love it.
Turning the block, I see lights blend with the streetlights. The added light is coming from behind me. I whisk around and see a set of headlights slow down.
"Why do we always end up meeting each other like this?" Grey smirks from inside his uber nice dodge charger.
"Well if you'd quit following me we may not see each other as much, but you know, you choose to obsess over me," I scoffed.
I start walking again and he gets out and follows me. "Like I said, I am not asking you for help, so you're not chained to me," I bark, still walking but a bit faster.
"You're quite the fighter aren't you?"
I shake my head and roll my eyes. I turn around quickly and stand right in front of him, nose to chest. "I don't need a knight in shining fucking armour. It's just a little chilly. Go away. I don't need you to help me." To be completely honest, it is freezing out here and I really want to ride in that nice car.
"That's where you're wrong. I am definitely not a knight in shining armour, one I don't believe in fairytales, and two I am trying to be nice since I will be stuck with you in a silent, boring, library forever. I am trying to get on your good side but I guess you don't care, do you? I am just the crude bad guy looking to trick you and create trust and then break you, aren't I?"
I back up farther than before as he glares into my eyes. I have no clue how long we stood there. My arms are laid by my sides and time seems to go on forever. Grey steps back slowly and steps into the headlights, casting a shadow onto the ground. He drives off angrily, leaving me to walk three blocks.
What have I done? I have totally screwed up everything.
I walk into the front door and glance at the clock above the doorway to the living room. "Kerri, where on god's green Earth have you been?" my mother spats angrily to me sitting at the kitchen table, papers laid out everywhere.
"Uhm, Mom, I told you I was going to Lucas' house," I stutter a couple times and lean against the counter with my phone in my hand.
"Mhm, that was a while ago. It's 9:30, Kerri. You reek of cigarette smoke," my Mom's face darkened with more anger than before.
Damn you, Grey.
"Lucas' mom started smoking again," I lied and walked closer to her. I knew that I should've just waited until she went to bed.
She glared at me as if she was trying to uncover my lie.
"I've got school tomorrow, I need a shower and to get to bed. Can we talk in the morning?" I asked and got a nod in return from my mom.
I walk upstairs and set my jacket and other stuff on my bed before walking over to my bathroom.
My hair was disheveled and my face was dirty from the sweat I worked up while walking, no wonder my mom was so angry, I looked like a mess.
I took a shower and reminsced on today's events, which only made my head hurt more.
I put on my comfortable clothes and laid in bed.
Should I text Grey or not? What if he's really mad at me? What would I say?
I rolled over in bed and picked up my phone from my bedside table reading the lockscreen, I saw that iI had a message from Lucas.
Did you get home? No stranger tried to molest you?
He's got a odd way of saying 'I hope you're at home safe'.
I replied with a smile.
I am fine, but guess who tried to pick me up again?
I picked up the book I am currently reading and started to flip through the pages. One by one flipped by and I eventually became mesmerized by the whooshing sound and the continuous air being flown into my face that smelled like an old library.
The sound of my phone vibrating on my bed broke my trance.
I opened my phone to see it wasn't Lucas who had tec, it was Grey.
Hey
I do not get him. I don't reply to him, what could I say?
I threw my phone onto my bed just as it decided to vibrate again.
Lucas replied.
Grey. What is his problem?! Tell me what I need to do.
I replied with a huff.
Nothing. He says he's trying to be nice. He tried to text me but I'm not going to reply to him. I'll explain everything tomorrow. Oh and you better wait about 10 extra minutes, my mom is going to rip my arms and legs from my body. Goodnight. Love you Damian.
I send it and return to my book. I wish Grey would go away, he's causing me so much stress.
Lucas replies.
Okay. You too Janis.
I set my phone back on my bedside table and pull the covers over me.
