Chapter 27:

(Lucas' POV)

"Kenna, are you still okay?" I yell through the white door. She's taking a shower.

She sighs," I'm fine Lucas, you can go now."

"I'm still worried about you. I want an explanation."

Right after I walked into the door yesterday she woke up and tried to brush the whole thing off. Not uh, that's not how it's gonna work.

I have left it alone since I found her but it's gotta stop now.

She has locked herself in the bathroom, now, I can't get to her.

"You'll know what I want you to know, now leave me alone," she yells and I jump back at her tone of voice.

I storm off into my bedroom and decide that it's not any good to try and get her to explain.

I hear the shower cut off and I jump off my bed impatiently.

"Kenna, are you done?" I yell from the hallway, going towards the bathroom.
No reply.

"McKenna, answer me now."

Still no reply.

"I knew this was gonna happen."

I run downstairs and fling open the key drawer. We keep all of our keys in one drawer in the dining room.

I rummage through the oak drawer frantically and grab two keys that say bathroom. Whether one is the master bath key or our hallway bathroom I don't know. But I will find out soon.

I take the silver key and try to push it through the lock but I get so far and it stops. Fudge.

I try the next key but it wouldn't budge either. What the hell am I supposed to do now?!

I do only what I know to do next, call 911. I know Kenna told me not to but I think Kerri is absolutely right.

I pull my phone out of my pocket when and go to dial the number when I hear Kenna groan.

"Kenna? Answer me now, I have my phone in my hand and am not afraid to call 911."

She groans again," Lucas, don't." Her voice is small and fragile.

She unlocks the door and turns the knob. The door reveals her towel wrapped body leaning against the granite countertop.

"Are you okay?" I pull her up and wrap the towel around her more modestly.

"I'm just a little dizzy. You didn't call anyone did you?"

"No," I reply and help steady her as we walk to her room.

Her feet slightly drag the floor when she moves them and her arm drapes around my neck for support.

"You need to see someone about it Kenna," I state as I lay her on her bed and pull out some of her clothes.

"No, there's nothing anyone can do for me."

I whip around in shock," what do you mean?"

Her face falls and I immediately know exactly what she means; only the worst thoughts cross through my head because the good ones have diminished from my mind.

"The cancer has spread. It was in my hip. When I told you that the chemo was working, it was, it got rid of the tumor in my hip. But, they found another tumor in my brain."

She's out of breath in a split second.

"So you lied to us!" I raise my voice but regret it soon after.
