Chapter 8:
"Kerri, I think you're overthinking this. Don't overanalyze this," Lucas stated.
I turned over and smiled at him. "I think he actually cares. I think I just screwed up a once in a lifetime chance to be with a hot bad boy," I covered my face and felt it heat up, I cannot cry over this. Kerri, you can't.
"Look, I know it seems like everything is crashing down but it's not. Maybe you dodged a bullet, you never know," he said with hope. I could hear his smile in his voice.
I sat up and looked at him. I hope it doesn't look like I've been crying.
"Don't cry over him. Don't make me find out where he lives, Kerri. If you cry over him you officially give me permission to beat him to death," he said with fierce laced in his tone.
I glanced at him and smiled. "You're my best friend Lucas you're like my best friend soul mate," I laughed and smiled at him.
I got up off the floor and decided to go downstairs.
I walked into the living area and saw Lucas' older sister, McKenna. She hadn't noticed me yet and was sitting on the end of the couch facing the opposite direction of me.
"Hey, Kenna," his loud voice boomed over my shoulder and scared me half to death. He passed me up and McKenna turned around to give her brother a hug.
I finished walking the stairs and smiled to her. "Mind, not giving me a heart attack, Lucas."
McKenna agreed with me and walked over to give me a hug as well.
McKenna is Lucas' 26 year old sister. She was away at college studying to be a marine biologist. She moved to Virginia to study at a great college there and I guess she had come back. We used to play with her when we were littler, it was like having an older sister.
"What are you doing here?" Lucas looked at her happily. Lucas and her was so very close before she left for college, now she only visits every Christmas and it doesn't take Lucas long to miss her. Those are one of Lucas' many issues that he goes through.
"Well, I took some time off, I'm graduating this year and I figured it was time to come see you when the house wasn't covered in white LED lights."
They laugh in unison and I start to feel like I'm interrupting a moment. They sit on the couch and I watch as they trade information with laughter and smiles. "I'm just going to go, Lucas. I will see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah. Have a good night. Call me when you get home," he says and gets up to hug me goodbye. In our hug he whispers something in my ear, Don't get in the car with any strangers, especially that certain one.
I nod my head and walk out the door with my stuff in my hand.
Shutting the door behind me I immediately feel the cold wind whip at my face. I get a cold chill and start walking on through the cold anyways.
Hugging my jacket tighter to me I find that today is not the best day to walk in the cold. It's unsually cloudy and the sun hasn't been seen all day so it makes it almost colder than what it is during the night. It doesn't help that the wind goes right through to your bones.
I walked the same way I had come the other night when Grey and I had our fight. Every car that I heard come from behind me made me turn my head in hopes of seeing Grey in his shiny car, with a huge smile and a forgiving speech. But I not once did I get my wish, all I saw was happy people laughing as they passed me.
The wind the cars gave off when they passed me made me grow colder and colder by the second.
I soon began to shake and my lips began to quiver. I was walking in the cold with an aching heart and a light jacket.
