"I don't mean to sound like a jackass but I'm going to sound like a jackass for a second."
- Roman

"It's right around this corner." I inform, walking slightly slower to match Eli's pace. He sauntered on my right, showing no rush, or even desire to reach his classroom in a timely manner. Even though him and I have only known each other for a few days. I can already tell that he's very laid back.

Suddenly, a figure stepped out in front of me, causing the both of us to stop dead in our tracks. "Well, if it isn't Peri." It spoke, and I immediately recognized him to be Roman. I felt Eli's fingers brush against mine secretively, and it then dawned on me that he was trying to hold my hand.

So I quickly crossed my arms over my chest to prevent that from happening, although it was very discreet. Roman glanced over Eli before speaking, "I can take it from here, I'm sure you have a class to get to." His statement made things a bit awkward, but to be honest, his presence in itself made things awkward.

Eli gave me a short wave, not really sticking around to tell if he should be intimidated by my friend or not. But I'm sure that by the looks that Roman shot him, he's already made up his mind. After watching him walk away, I turned back to the boy before me and groaned.

"What?" He laughed, and took Eli's place when I started to walk to our first period. "I didn't say anything to the guy." Roman knows damn-well what he's done, and sometimes, I feel like he finds pleasure in chasing off any guy that poses even a remote impact on my life.

If Nathan wasn't my brother, I'm pretty sure that he would've walked away from me years ago.

"'I'm sure you have a class to get to.'" I mocked, "Yeah, right, you didn't say anything."

Roman tilted his head to the side a bit before glancing in my direction. His brown hair, completely unmoved as he flinched back jokingly with surprise. "I don't mean to sound like a jackass but I'm going to sound like a jackass for a second. We are at school, classes are normal things we attend at school ...." He trailed.

I rolled my eyes ahead, but I'm sure that he caught all of it since he walked facing my way. Roman trailed off in hopes that I would finally understand why him saying what he did to Eli was completely normal. But I brushed it off, because I understood that he wouldn't possibly comprehend that he was basically shooing the boy off.

"Whatever," I wave, as we walked one behind the other into the classroom. "say it again and we aren't friends anymore."

Various ooo's and snickers emitted from our friends around the room. They must have overheard me telling off Roman, which was honestly a daily occurrence. Actually, an hourly occurrence is a better time stamp to mark that.
