As Tom shoved one shirt to the next, he couldn't help it but speak to the questioning looks he was receiving from Kate, she sat by his bed pondering to the ends of the worlds on why his best friend was packing his stuff in a small backpack.
“Robert's really not going to tell you where he's taking you?” She asked with eyes worried and questioning.
Tom nevertheless just shrugged, finally finishing his packing as he laid a tired look on his best friend.
“I don't really care, I just want to have some peace” He replied with his head hang low. “Rob just told me to pack and were leaving the first thing at dawn” His smile turned into a straight line, failing into feeling more light.
“Ahh, romantic” Kate smiled, her laughter had always made an impact to recover the missing notes on his body. “But seriously, be careful” She warned all the sudden.
“Why? Because this might be all some sick, twisted game and I'm the prize?”
It took her a moment to answer before nodding slowly. Tom sighed as he gave Kate a small peck on her head before moving over to the other side of the room to gather his other things, leaving his laptop and other electronic device apart from his phone that he kept turned-off.
“If this is some sick, twisted game, then I hope I certainly get the better end of it. I mean c'mon? Robert?” That's when Kate laughed once more, her almond shape eyes disappear in the process was a delightful sight.
It was sorta like an image of pure joy.
A shroud of emptiness filled the room once more as Kate began questioning if whether she should tell Tom or not. She bit her lips and sat upright from his bed, his back facing away from her.
“She sent another one” The worried tone in her voice froze Tom in an instance, thinking about what futile attacks left that woman did now. “What did she do?” He asked softly, starting to pack his belongings on his shoulder bag once more, pretending not to notice the alarming tone in his voice.
“She offered to pay our bills, rent, water, electricity—”
“—Well decline!” Tom reacted, leaving his mouth wide open.
“I did...but she already did it, sorry” She said. And for a moment, she couldn't quite comprehend what was going on in Tom's brown eyes. He looked like a whole new person. He looked as about a few years older by some trick of the light.
“Great! Now she'll think I'm in debet to her for the rest of the month. What's next? She'll offer to pay my college fee?!” Tom asked, staring at Kate with eyes wide open.
Kate raised her hand to make a point but withdraw it instantly by the look on his best friend face. Oh boy, she already knew that telling him this would add more fuel to the fire. And by fuel she meant the random act of kindness, Tanya has been doing and by fire, she meant Tom.
“Ah, actually she uhmm—I—uhm—” She was interrupted when Tom rolled his eyes and sat on his chair next to his desk.
“—Don't tell me she did it” A strange smile on her picturesque face made him eat his words immediately. She seemed to be hiding some rather perplexing emotion by the looks of it.
“No, she brought the question up but I don't think she was serious about it...I think, I don't know” Again, she was silenced by the groaning from Tom as he spun around on his chair.
“What is wrong with that woman?” He yelled in distraught, caressing the palm of his hands to his face. She knew, Tanya was serious into winning him back. But he didn't knew it was this serious. To the point of him living off her benefits and other perks she was offering on a silver platter.
