For the next couple of days, I was in full panic mode over someone finding us, and figuring everything out.
I kept Aura closer than usual whenever Harry was out. He thinks I'm worrying too much, which I probably am. But I'm just so nervous, with that guilt still eating at me. And one night, my nightmare came true.
Harry and I were on the couch, watching TV, when suddenly there was a news story about us. Me. My body tensed, and I sat up shaking. The reporter was saying something about strange behavior and questionable sightings. There were blurry pictures of, well, I'm not sure. But it wasn't us. But they looked like us. Then I really thought. Louis and Liam. They're here too.
I stood up and faced Harry.
"We need to leave." I say, already walking toward the stairs to get Aura.
In a flash, Harry grabbed my arm and looked me right in the eyes.
"We'll be fine. Sure, people have been noticing strange happening, and it is probably us, but hey, we look like normal people. They wouldn't know the difference if they saw us. They can't find us." he says.
I look down.
"Well I think they'll notice if our fangs or claws accidentally come out like mine did." I said, guilt all over my face.
Harry sighed and kissed my neck, attempting to calm me down.
"We'll be ok, baby." he says.
I bite my lip and nod, trying to believe him.
"I wish we were normal." I say.
He stops and looks at meme with sad eyes.
"I'm sorry I did this to you."
Great. Even more guilt. I put a hand to his chest.
"Don't apologise. If this is the only way I get to be with you, than this is how I want to be. I love you, don't ever forget that. You didn't ask to be this way." I say, resting my forehead on his chest.
Harry's strong arms wrapped around me, holding me tight. I received a kiss to the top of my head.
"Just relax. We'll be alright." he says.
I nod, hugging him so tight. We release, then Harry turns the TV off and we go to bed.
But even as I lay next to Harry, I can't help this horrible feeling inside my stomach. I'm so nervous about all this. And it's my fault. If only I hadn't ran into that girl. I promised myself everything would be ok, that nothing would happen.
I tried to calm myself down, and it worked. For a while.
But then there was a knock on the door early the next morning.
*******
Harry and I woke up when we heard the knock. My stomach filled with knots, and I gripped Harry's arm tightly.
"Just relax." he says, stepping out of bed.
He slipped on a shirt and fixed his hair quickly, then jogged downstairs. I quickly ran a brush through my hair, then followed Harry down. Whoever it was knocked again.
"Coming!" Harry said, then opened the door.
I hid behind Harry, holding onto his arm. He opened the door. There were two men and woman, who had a notebook and camera. I squeezed Harry's arm a little tighter.
"Can we help you?" Harry asked.
They looked at us like they knew there was something wrong.
"Yes, actually. We're looking for some sources to confirm the strange sightings that were photographed. I'm sure you've heard about this issue."
I let go of Harry and tried to look as calm as possible. Harry's hands had tensed up.
"Um, sorry. We don't know anything about that." he said.
They gave us looks that showed they didn't believe him.
"Are you sure?" The lady asked.
I nodded, wanting this all to end.
"We really don't have anything for you." I say, ready to close the door.
"We're sorry, its just, people have reported seeing strange behavior coming from this household."
I wanted to cry. Tears were threatening to form. Harry looked down at me, saw I was upset, and put an arm on me, his fingertips drawing circles on my back.
"Really?" Harry asked, trying to be a good actor.
They all nodded. I looked back, praying Aura wouldn't make any noise, then back at the reporters.
"Do you by chance have any pets or children?" One man asked.
I bit the inside of my lip, holding in my emotions. Would it be right to say we have Aura? No. They cant see her. Before Harry could answer, I did.
"No, we don't. Its just us."
They looked at each other, then back at us.
"Then do you have any idea what the strange noises could be? Everyone says it comes from this household."
Harry is the one tensing up now.
"We really have no idea, sorry." Harry says.
They seem unsure about us, but they nod.
"Ok. Sorry to bother you."
I give them a fake smile. "Its alright."
They leave, then I shut the door tightly. I press my back against it, then look up at Harry.
"I told you. I told you they would come! Everything will be ok? I don't think so. Did you see how they were looking at us? They're not stupid, Harry! They know something is up, and we're leaving!" I say, starting to walk away.
Harry grabs my arm.
"Don't you think if we suddenly move, people will suspect that something was defiantly up? If we leave, those reporters will know we're hiding something, and we wanted to get away. We're staying here."
My fists tighten and I shake loose from Harry's grasp.
"If we stay here, someone will figure us out. And when they do, just imagine what they'll do. To you, to me, to-" I couldn't even finish.
I can't even think of what they would do to Aura. And it breaks me inside. I hate take all of this stress.
"Harry, I cant risk anything happening to her." I choke out, tiny tears slipping out.
Harry tries to face me, but I turn away.
"Nothing is going to happen to her."
My fangs grow from my sudden anger and I turn back to face Harry.
"If we stay here, something will! People already know there's something not right about us, and if we stay here, they will find out, and they will take us away somewhere. We aren't people, Harry. And if they find out what we are, there will be no end to this pain. We're moving!" I snapped, a little too loudly.
Harry seemed shocked. I'm never like this. Its just from all the stress.
"But, they could still find us. Wherever we go, someone could find out. It takes one person, Naomi."
I turn away and bite my lip, holding in screams.
"I hate this." I choke out, then run upstairs.
Aura is awake, standing up in her crib. I take her in my arms and hold her close on the floor, silently crying.
"I'm so sorry." I tell her, rubbing the top of her head.
