I thought it was time that my mum met Aura.
After talking with Harry for a long time, he agreed. He even said he would come along too. My mum hasn't even seen Harry since we left my grandma's house a year ago.
Aura and I were in her bedroom. I was getting her changed.
"Aura, can you grab that dress right over there, sweetie?" I asked, pointing to the pink leopard dress.
She walked over, grabbed it, and handed it to me.
"Thank you." I said, kissing her nose.
I slipped her shirt and skirt off and put the dress over her body. She sat down, messing with the bottom of it. I gave her black tights and silver tennis shoes. She handed me the brush and I put her long curly hair in a high ponytail. Harry walked in, then sat down next to us.
"She's a little dressed up, isn't she?" he asked as Aura sat in his lap.
I shrugged. "Well I want her to look nice."
He nodded and nudged his nose against her cheek. She layed her head back on his chest, then messed with his cross necklace. I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair.
"Are you sure we should do this? I mean, what if someones visiting? What if she's gone somewhere? What if-"
Harry covered my mouth.
"Stop worrying baby. We'll be fine. And if anyones there, we'll come back later. Your mum deserves to see her granddaughter. My parents aren't around anymore to see her. Aura deserves to know one of her grandparents."
I looked up at him and nodded. "Yeah. You're right."
I brushed my thumb over Aura's cheek and stood up. Harry followed me up, Aura in his arms.
"Ready?" I asked.
Harry nodded. "I am if you are. I just don't know what your mum will think of me. She could hate me for all we know." He said.
I rolled my eyes and kissed him. "She doesn't hate you. You saved me."
After we got one more fill of blood, we ran out the door. A minute later, we were at my mum's back door. I took a deep breath, then knocked on the door.
We made sure to check if there were any extra cars in the driveway, which there wasn't. After a little bit, the door slowly opened.
When she saw me, I could tell she was surprised. She backed away a little, but I ignored it.
"Hi mum." I said.
She stared at me for a llittle longer.
"Naomi."
I smiled, trying to relax her. I haven't seen her in months. She looked different. Older, maybe. Then she saw Harry. That's when she really looked scared.
"Mum, please. Neither of us would ever hurt you." I say, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Ok. Give me a second." she says, running her fingers through her hair.
"We just wanted you to meet someone." I say, pointing to Aura hiding behind Harry's legs.
Her eyes grew a little, then the natural grandmother inside of her came out.
"Is this-"
She pointed to Aura, her eyes lighting up a little.
"This is Aura. She's mine and Harry's daughter." I say.
Mum kneeled down, and Harry pushed Aura in front of him.
"Hello sweetheart." Mum said, smiling.
Harry kneeled down to meet Aura's face.
"This is your grandma, Aura. Give her a hug." he tells her, then stands back up.
Aura shyly walks over to my mum and gives her a small hug. Ive never seen my mum so happy at that moment. She's always wanted a grandchild. Even if that grandchild is a vampire.
"Oh, shes beautiful. And big. How old is she? It couldn't have been that long ago that you told me you were pregnant." she said, looking up at me.
I sat next to them.
"She's eight months. She just grows a little faster then normal little girls." I tell her.
She nods, smiles at Aura, then stands.
"Well shes beautiful."
I smile, then Harry takes her in his arms. Mum looks over at Harry.
"Thank you for taking care of my daughter." she tells him.
He nods. "I would do anything for Naomi." he said.
I smiled and looked over at Harry, glad my mum has accepted our situation.
"I can see in your eyes how much you love each other. And if you're happy, then I'm happy." Mum says, turning to me.
I smile.
"Would you like to come in?" she asked.
Harry and I looked at each other.
"Uh-"
"Sure." Harry answered for me.
We walked in, and Harry put Aura on the floor. She immediately started exploring, looking at everything. We sat on the couch. Harry was keeping a close eye on Aura as she walked around the room.
We talked to my mum for awhile, telling her how we've been doing and everything about Aura. She actually seemed really interested, and I think she was warming up to Harry. He was being as sweet as always, so of course she wansnt going to hate him.
Besides, if he hadn't done anything in the first place, I would be dead. So really, she should be thanking him.
Aura couldn't keep still for more than two seconds literally. I guess it was the new surroundings. She had to explore I guess. We were just about to leave, when there was a knock on her door.
We all froze, then by habit Harry grabbed Aura.
"Mum." I say, standing up.
She looked back at us.
"Just get into the kitchen." she says.
Harry wraps an arm around my shoulder and leads us into the kitchen. I heard my mum open the door and talk for a little bit. Then she walks back over to us. "Its your grandma." My stomach sunk a little. "Can we go out the back door?" I asked, pointing in that direction. Mum bites her lip nervously and looks up at us. "Not at the moment. There's a bunch of construction workers in that area right now." I sighed and looked at Harry. "We can go upstairs." he says. In our vampire speed, we run upstairs and hide just above the stairs. My grandma absolutely can not see me. She believes I'm dead. And seeing me would confuse the hell out of her. Harry is keeping Aura close and quiet. I'm praying to God she doesn't make any noise. I heard the door open again and I heard my grandmothers familiar voice. "How are you doing, Meg?" she asks my mum. There's a lot of mumbling after that. Then I heard my name. "I found some of Naomi's clothes that she left at my house that long time ago." I had to hold in my emotions. "That long time ago" is when I met Harry and all of this happened. They were talking about me for awhile. Do they do that often? Finally, my mum ended ths conversation. "You know, mum. I would rather not talk about Naomi. Its too hard." I nodded, glad my mum covered for me. My grandma stayed for a long time, talking nonstop. Aura started to squirm, so Harry held her a little tighter. But she just would not stop moving. What made my stomach turn into a million knots was when she let a small whine out. Harry put a hand over her mouth, like that's gonna help. We looked at each other, then stood up and hid ourselves much better. We shut ourselves in a closet, and pressed close together. My breathing was a little heavy from stress. Harry squeezed my hand to calm me down. After a while, my mum found us and opened the closet door. "Shes gone." I sighed of relief and Harry put Aura down. "Did she hear us?" I asked as we walked toward the stairs. "She heard Aura, but I said it was from the TV upstairs." I nodded and we walked down the stairs. Aura held my hand on the way down. "I think we should leave now." I say. Mum nodded and looked out the window. "The workers have moved so you can get back home." she says. After we say goodbye, Harry grabs Aura and we race back home in a flash. When we finally get home, I relax and fall onto the couch. "Well that was fun."
