i missed you dearly,
thought i was nearly dead.
forever, at last, together.

•-•dan wasn't going to lie, he was beginning to grow fond of the enthusiastic boy he had become friends with.
they had been talking regularly for 2 weeks now, and phil had always seemed prepared to lift dan's spirits.
but that wasn't the only thing dan appreciated.
he also loved how patient phil was with him. there were those particular days where dan didn't feel like talking, so when the boy would come and try to make pleasant conversation, dan would sometimes create an uncomfortable atmosphere by not even replying at all.
but instead of getting exasperated or giving up, phil would stay with him. sometimes he'd make small comments, too. saying things like, "it's alright if you don't want to talk today." or, "you wanna be silent? okay, i'll be silent with you."
as most people would think of phil as some type of cliché, dan didn't mind it. it felt nice to have someone sticking by his side like this.
yeah, of course dan had his friends. but phil was different. dan wouldn't ever be able to put into words exactly why, but he was.
and sometimes, you just need that different friend.
not only was phil undeniably different, he was also very persistent. so when dan got a call at 2 in the morning from phil, he wasn't sure how to feel.
"..hello?" dan asked groggily into the phone, only half awake.
"the stars are really pretty tonight."
dan sighed in annoyance. "nice to know. why did you call?"
"i want you to see the stars."
"phil- it's 2 AM. go to bed."
"but dan! honestly, go look at the sky! they seem to be shining brighter tonight. the night sky is a perfect pitch black, and it all contrasts really nicely."
"thanks for the star analysis, NASA." dan retorted, sitting up from the warm covers. "if i look outside, will you shut the hell up and let me sleep?"
"okay. yeah. but you have to go outside. not just from your window."
dan groaned. "phil- what the hell? do i have to repeat the fact to you that it's 2 in the morning?"
"nah, you've already told me."
dan let out a long, over exaggerated sigh and got out of bed, pulling on a black sweatshirt.
"wait- i've got an even better idea!" phil exclaimed. "why don't i come pick you up?"
"what?! phil- no! it's late!"
"well, technically, it's pretty early."
"whatever, smartass. i'm not coming over."
there was silence from dan's phone for a moment, before phil spoke up again. "do you know where i am right now, dan?"
"no?" dan raised an eyebrow, even though phil couldn't see him. "but i'm guessing you're home?"
"yeah, i am. on my roof."
"thanks for sharing?"
"the stars look even better since i'm up here. they're breathtaking."
"alrighty then."
"i want you to see them from up here, dan."
dan frowned to himself. what could it hurt?
"well, i mean.. i won't be able to go back to bed for awhile anyways now that you've woke me up."
"so you'll let me come get you?"
dan smiled lightly at the sudden excitement in phil's voice.
"yeah, go ahead. come pick me up."
