Breathe
and i stand in a sea
of people in the ebb and flow
of time and i wonder
what their stories are
and in each face,
what beauty each one holds.
but this closeness is closing in on me,
people push me down
and trample on me
and this heart beats rapidly
wanting to break out of this ribcage,
my ribcage is a cage of hearts.
and the packs of wolves are on me,
because i haven't had a chance to
feel this freedom and exhale -
and suddenly it feels like
you're going under
and you need a place to hold
on but you grab water
and bubbles float past you
and you haven't had a chance to
fill your lungs --
you're drowning because you
were too slow and from here on
every step you take matters,
every movement is watched,
with every blink your future is shaped
and you didn't get to feel wings yet --
or maybe the cage was always here
and i realize how suffocating this place is
and when i thought i was playing
the game,
the game was playing me.
claustrophobic creeps in
and seizes my bones
because the game has always been
here, the game has always been
playing me, and in the middle
of this chaos, in the midst
of people with all their stories
i am insignificant
and i am nothing
and sometimes i wonder
why this place is a vacuum,
so airless and filtered,
and what am i'm here for
screams each claustrophobic bone
but that's okay,
I'll be fine if i can breathe.
A/N:
Should I change the chapter titles so you know what each poem's title is? Also, is the cover in need of a change? Please give me feedback so I can improve this poetry book. Thanks so much! Love you all! <3
