The Villa

The French doors opened out to a gorgeous view of the Rocky mountains that surrounded the rustic villa that Sebastian had rented for your weekend getaway. Snow glistened, a shimmering blanket covering the ground. Evergreens stood guard on either side of the villa, providing a perch for a pair of excited chickadees. Steam rose from the heated pool embedded in the center of the wooden patio, a drop of warmth in the winter world that isolated you from civilization.

"Oh Sebastian, it's beautiful!" you exclaim. You turn, expecting to see him smiling back at you, but all you see is the empty den. "Sebastian?"

"In here, you'll love this!" you hear him say from somewhere inside. You venture back into the villa, peering your head into room after room. Every room is more lovely than the last, and you wonder how he managed to find the perfect place for you to stay. Finally, you peek into the last door in the hall to the right of the front entrance and find Seb up a short flight of narrow stairs, standing in the middle of the small room. Rows of bookshelves lined the walls, and a small armchair rested comfortably in the corner. The ceiling slanted down with the shape of the roof, and a large window opened up a view of the November sky. A small standing telescope had been set to one side of the window. "When I saw the pictures of this room, I knew this was the place I had to take you," Sebastian said softly. You feel his arm wrap around your back and you lean into his embrace.

"Let's go unpack, I want to enjoy every second of being here," you suggest, and the two of you head back down the stairs and to the bedroom.

"So, what do you want to do now that we're here?" Sebastian asked. You turn and hold up a bikini top.

"I saw this place has a heated pool... Are you down for a swim?" you smile. Sebastian clambered to find his swim trunks as you start changing. "I'll meet you out there, you dork," you teased him.

You weren't expecting just how cold it would be outside, and you quickly tiptoed to the edge of the water, trying to avoid leaving your feet on the freezing deck for very long. You bent and traced patterns in the water with your fingers, testing the temperature. It was pleasantly warm, and you gratefully jumped in. The water froze to the wood as it splashed above the level of the pool.

"Shit! I forgot to grab a towel! SEB!" you shouted to him, but he didn't respond. You sighed and got back out of the water, heading for the cupboard by the fence surrounding the patio. You pulled out two towels and set them on top of the cupboard. Various pool toys and different sizes of goggles toppled from one of the shelves and you stooped to pick them up. When they were all safely back in the cupboard, you turned with the towels and hurried to get back into the warm water. As you were walking back, you saw Sebastian leaning on the side of the pool, watching you.

"I knew the view was great but I never thought it would be THIS beautiful," he murmured. You smile and sit on the deck next to where he was leaning. You tilted his head up to meet yours and you kissed gently.

"I love you... And I love this place, I wish we could stay here forever," you respond, slipping into the water and pulling him away from the edge with you.

"We can. Stay here, I mean. As long as you like... I was going to wait to tell you, but now seems as good a time as any... I bought it. This villa, it's ours now," Sebastian said, smiling widely. You matched his smile, kissing him again. When you pulled away, your smile had turned playful, and you splashed him in the face. He splashed back and you get into an all-out water fight, laughing the whole time. With your glowing happiness with him, you could hardly feel the cold.
