I got to Brendon's room, Jay following with Maddie in his arms.
I burst in the door and the doctor held me back from Brendon.
"Shh. You have to stay quiet. Calm down."
They say me down in the hallway.
"Brendon is doing much better. We wanted you and Maddie to come talk to him. Tell him how much you love him and that you want him to get better. This may further his recovery."
I nodded, a few tears fell from my face.
"You may go in now. But stay calm."
He stood up and then looked back to me.
"Talk about your baby."
Baby. The baby Brendon might never see.
I nodded and went inside, taking Maddie.
"We're gonna talk to daddy okay?"
She smiled and nodded.
The doctors told me Brendon had shown no physical improvements but his health and mental state was better.
I have 3 months to help him.
3 months before our baby.
I sat Maddie in the end of his bed and I sat in a chair that was as close as possible to him.
I took his hand and kissed it.
"Brendon? Maddie's here."
I nodded to her and she started to cry.
"Daddy? I miss you. Especially your goodnight songs. And your big hugs. I miss you daddy."
I felt a tear run down my cheek.
Maddie started crying so I pulled her on my lap.
I squeezed Brendon's hand.
"I'll be right back. I'm gonna take Maddie to Jay."
When I got back I sat on the edge of the bed. I took my hand and traced his lips. They used to be so pink, now they have almost no color at all.
"Babe? God, these past few months have been really hard without you."
I tried to hold back my tears and put a hand on my stomach.
"Brendon, you remember we're having a baby? Well it's a boy. Only three more"
I had to stop, I was choking up just thinking about the possibility of having him without Brendon by my side.
"Months, only 3 months."
I felt the baby start kicking so took Brendon's hand and put it where the baby's feet were.
"You feel that? He's kicking. You know what the doctors said?" I took his hand into mine.
"His lungs are the strongest part on him right now."
I smiled thinking of the future.
"He might be a singer. Just like daddy."
A tear fell and landed on his hand.
"I miss you. I miss the feel of your soft warm lips on mine. I miss your hand in mine. I miss you playing with my hair, I miss your voice telling me you love me. I miss waking up to your arms around me, letting me know I'm safe."
I paused and kissed his cheek.
"I miss you."
I felt his grip tighten around my hand.
"Did you just squeeze my hand?"
"Please do it again."
He did.
I pushed the button to get the doctors.
Jay and Maddie came in too.
"What's going on?" The doctor asked.
"He squeezed my hand, look he will do it again."
I looked to Brendon.
"Babe? Can you squeeze my hand again?"
He did, and then he nodded his head.
His lips began to move and then slowly he opened his eyes.
"Babe?!?" I said leaning forward.
I kissed him and I could feel his lips move back.
"Hey baby. It's me. You're awake."
Brendon continued to recover. By 6 he was fully awake.
"If he continues at this pace then in around 2-3 weeks he can go home." The doctor said and he gave Brendon medicine.
I smiled and turned to Brendon. He was slowly regaining color.
"Can I stay with him tonight?"
I knew what he was going to say.
I'm sorry Meghan. You know the rules. We can't let you.
"Yes. Since he's improving, I will allow you, but only you."
I was shocked at his answer.
"Thank you!" I said hugging him.
Jay said he would keep Maddie.
"Brendon?"
"Yes my darling?"
I could help but laugh, he never calls me darling.
"Why'd you call me darling?"
"Trying something new."
"Oh okay. Well, I'm gonna run home and take a shower and grab some clothes. I'll be back."
He was grinning like he was up to something.
"Maybe you should take the car. It would be better on your feet and a whole lot faster."
I rolled my eyes and Maddie gave him a kiss.
"There you go, you're making stupid dad jokes."
I gave him a quick kiss and met Jaydon in the hallway.
Brendon's gonna be okay. We can be a family again.
