Chapter 30: Dog Days I

The rest of the night was uneventful, until Pein called Sakura to his office. Sakura was about to knock but she found the door ajar. She took a peek and her eyes immediately adjusted to the dim room. "Pein-sama?" Sakura called out in the room as she stared at his seat when she saw something move around that area. "Sakura, help me refrain this beast." Pein said, lying on the floor as he tried to push away a creature from his face. Sakura turned when she heard the door open. "Oh, Sakura, you're here." A voice said.

"Konan? What happened to Pein-sama?" Sakura asked, raising an eyebrow. "He dislikes dogs." Konan said as she pulled a brown puppy with green eyes and stitches away from Pein. 'Leader! You better find a way to turn me back soon!' Kakuzu thought, growling. Pein sighed as he fixed himself and sat back on his chair. "Who owns the puppy?" Sakura asked, smiling as she patted the puppy's head. 'That pat costs 50 yen.' Kakuzu thought, wagging his tail happily.

"Nobody. The dog is Kakuzu." Pein said, making Sakura's eyes widen. Konan handed Sakura a scroll. "Seems like he opened a cursed scroll and transformed into a dog just a few hours before you returned. He should return to normal in another three days." Konan said as she stared at Kakuzu, who is wagging his tail as Konan set him down on the floor. "Why would he open a suspicious looking scroll?" Sakura asked, raising an eyebrow. 'It was that f**king idiot!' Kakuzu thought, growling once again. "It wasn't him that opened the scroll. It was Hidan." Pein said, making Salura twitching. 'So that's why Hidan's head was cut off.' Sakura thought as Pein dismissed her.

With that, Sakura returned to her room with Kakuzu in her arms to call it a night. Kakuzu hopped down from Sakura's arms and sat on the floor, staring at Sakura. "Can you still talk?" Sakura asked. 'Does it look like I can talk?' Kakuzu thought, twitching in annoyance as he shook his head no. "Did you eat?" Sakura asked, earning herself a yes. 'And they tried feeding me dog food. Good thing Itachi came with real food.' "That's good. Let's call it a night." Sakura said, smiling as she made the bed.

Sakura gave Kakuzu a questioning look as Kakuzu lied on the floor. 'What? You're a girl, you'll surely complain about shedding.' Kakuzu thought. "You can sleep beside me." Sakura said, lying down. Kakuzu looked up and settled himself on the bed beside Sakura's feet. 'Didn't expect that.' He thought, wagging his tail. "Okay then." Sakura awkwardly said as she shut the lights and lied back.

In the middle of the night, Sakura felt light tapping on her face and a tiny weight on her chest. 'Wake up! I forgot to hide my money!' Kakuzu thought as Sakura's eyes fluttered open and she saw a very distressed looking puppy. "What is it?" Sakura asked as the puppy hopped down and ran towards the door. The puppy barked as if telling Sakura to hurry up as she got up.

Sakura sighed as she followed Kakuzu running towards his room. The puppy whimpered as he clawed the door to his room. 'I can't reach the s**ty door knob.' Sakura laughed and opened the door for him. Kakuzu bit the end of Sakura's pajamas and pulled her in. Sakura stared at Kakuzu in wonder as he pulled her towards the bed, wagging his tail happily. 'Tail, stop wagging, damn it!' Kakuzu thought as he ran to his money.

"You want me to sleep here?" Sakura asked. Kakuzu nodded as he pushed a pile of money underneath his bed. Sakura sweat dropped at this, watching Kakuzu. "So you were distressed because of your money?" Sakura asked, earning a nod as she lied down on his bed. Kakuzu barked as he lied beside Sakura's feet again. Sakura switched off the lights and fell asleep.

The following day, Sakura woke up, feeling a tug on her hair. 'It's time to get up! Why do you wake up so late?!' Kakuzu thought, annoyed that he can get his coffee later than usual. Sakura's eyes fluttered open and saw Kakuzu. 'Finally!' Kakuzu barked and ran towards the door, clawing it again. Sakura glanced at the clock and saw that it's already 7 am. "You wake up too early." Sakura said, sweat dropping as she got up. 'You wake up too late.' Kakuzu barked, twitching as Sakura opened the door. "Let's make a quick stop in my room." Sakura said, making Kakuzu nod.

Sakura entered her bathroom and got ready as Kakuzu sat on her bed, waiting for her to finish. A few minutes later, a refreshed Sakura walked out. Kakuzu stood up wagging his tail as he walked towards the dining room with Sakura hot on his trails. "Puppy! Deidara-senpai! Tobi found a puppy!" Tobi shouted, giving Kakuzu a bone crushing hug. 'Let go you over-grown kid!' Kakuzu thought, gasping for air. "You'll kill it, un!" Deidara said, hitting Tobi over the head, causing Tobi to let go of the puppy. 'I'm realizing the terrors of being a puppy.' Kakuzu thought, hiding behind the laughing Sakura.
