Caroline's POV:
Luke and I are sitting back and waiting for our plane to arrive. It's already been delayed back 2 hours due to the weather. We've been lying around all day drinking Starbucks watching movies on Luke's Ipad. We sat on a couch in a little quiet area hidden towards the back of the airport so nobody would bug us.
I sat between his legs and laid on his chest feeling it rise and fall while watching Bridesmaids. He'd fallen asleep in the first 10 minutes because he didn't get to choose the movie this time. It was raining outside and the air was on high in the little room we were in.
The only warmth I had was Luke's bigs arms wrapped around me. He was in his Nike Georgia Bulldogs sweater and refused to take off his hat since he had sex hair from last night. I was getting sleepy myself being that we woke around 4 and it was barley 6. I set an alarm for 7:30 since we started boarding at 8 to try and get some sleep. I snugged up to Luke and he shifted us into a spooning position and fell back asleep.
When I woke back up Luke and I were in the same position that we were in before. I shut the iPad up then stretched and went to wake Luke up too. I shook him a little but he curled up into a ball and refused to move until I pulled his hoodie back and took off his hat. He jumped up and took it back from my hands and placed it on his head.
"Good morning." I said hugging him.
"Ugh." He groaned pulling away.
"What's the matter?" I asked looking at him.
"I feel groggy. I wanna throw up but I can't. My nose is stuffed, and my throat is killing me. I think I'm getting sick." He complained.
"I'm sure you'll be alright. We have some ibuprofen to help for now." I said handing him some pills from his backpack.
"Let's hurry I don't wanna miss the plane." He said sounding gross.
We walked towards the landing area where the plane was and waited for it to roll up. It only took 5 minutes then we were in the air, Luke was resting his head on my lap and I massaged his aching head.
We were back at the very very tiny airport in Leesburg in no time. Luke awoke when we landed from all of the shaking. He still looked terrible so I knew he was really sick.
"Where to now back to my house or do you wanna go to your Mamaw's?" I asked rubbing his nback as he buckled up.
"Uh take me to Mamaw's please I want soup but I don't wanna cook I wanna snuggle." He said laying his head on the truck window.
I drove up the driveway and turned the truck off. Luke got out and walked slowly inside. Mamaw was surprised to see us she was the first to hug us both.
"Oh Thomas what's wrong?" She asked worried.
"I don't feel good. Everything hurts." He said laying his head on Mamaw's shoulder. She rubbed his head a little bit then smacked him hard.
"I saw you all over the magazines at the grocery store today. Don't you ever get that drunk again Thomas Luther Bryan." She sternly told him.
"I'm sorry Mamaw." He replied.
"I know you are boy. Go lay down I'll make you some soup but if I ever catch you doing something like that again y'all will both be in trouble." She narrowed her eyes and walked away. I held back my laughs because he knew when she smacked him it hurt but tried to play it off.
His arm was all red I bit my tongue and guided us to his room. He laid down closest to the wall and pulled me towards him. "Lay with me." He said with his eyes shut.
"I'm gonna go help Mamaw with the soup." I told him.
"Caroline please."
"I guess, but don't get me sick or anything."
"I won't, I promise." With that being said I held onto him until I fell asleep in his arms.
Luke's POV:
I felt somebody pulling at my leg hair. I sat up and saw a little body looking back at me. He screamed, making me scream back. I got a closer look and saw the familiar face of Til.
"Dammit Til you scared the hell out of me!" I yelled with with a weak voice.
"I'm sorry Uncle Luke, there was just a spider crawling on you." He said pointing towards my thigh.
"Oh that's just disgusting." I said flicking off the bed.
"You sound disgusting." Til joked.
"Be quiet, I'm losing my voice because I'm sick."
"Mamaw wanted me to come get you and Aunt Caroline so y'all could have the soup she made." He said walking out of the room.
"Caroline the fo..." I said in a scratchy tone.
"Your girly scream woke me up." She cut me off.
"Sorry, i'll meet you in the kitchen." I said getting up off the bed. My headache had gone away slightly but my stomach had yet to stop bugging me.
"You look 10 times better than before." Mamaw said setting down my bowl of soup.
"I feel like 5 times better." I said in a whispered voice.
"Here I made you some warmed up tea with honey to help with your throat."
Caroline say besides me as we prayed for the delicious dinner that Mamaw had made us all. Til and the girls messed around throwing crackers at each other before one hit Lee in the head then they got yelled at.
"Thank you for the dinner Mamaw LeClaire, we'll be back tomorrow for the Thanksgiving dinner." Lee said giving Mamaw a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Each of the kids followed behind him.
The screen door slammed shut but was quickly opened by Pa. He looked cleaned up and well dressed and came to give Caroline and I a hug. He sat down in front of us and Mamaw sat besides him. They didn't really acknowledge each other but then again they hardly have since college.
"You haven't told him anything yet?" Daddy asked Ma. She shook her head no but I was still confused.
"Tell me what?" I asked looking at them both.
"Well Luther, this probably isn't the best time to tell you this since you're sick and Thanksgiving is tomorrow but we've held off too long now. Your mother and I are no longer together." Pa said. I was in shock hoping this was nothing but a joke.
"I don't get it, what do y'all mean?"
"We mean we're divorced Thomas, and we have been for a while now ever since you left for Chris passed we'd been going through lots of problems. Then you moved to college and Kelly passed too which made it even harder to get along. We haven't been together for the past 5 years..." Mamaw spoke.
"No no, y'all have been seeing my shows together and stuff without any problems."
"Luther, we hardly talk unless you were in town or we had to go visit you. We didn't wanna be a burden on your carrier it's nothing for you to worry about really."
"It would've been a burden of I would've known this from the beginning I mean it's... I don't know." I said in frustration.
"I just need some time alone." I got up and stormed out of the kitchen and down the the old pond dam in the back of the woods. I threw rocks in the water before hearing crunching of leaves behind me.
