Declan was standing on the beach, his back to the water he could hear lapping behind him. He was staring at the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She was pale and glowing at the same time. Her long jet black hair fell in waves past her waist. She was covered with seaweed bits making her look ethereal and ocean like. Her body was lean with small muscles visibly just beneath her skin.
He was staring at her face though, the same face he saw when he was drowning in the rip as a boy. Her features looked as if they had been carved by a sculptor. Her cheekbones high and beautiful, as well as her jaw. Her lips were full and rose colored and her eyes glowed like golden fire torches in the night.
She looked at him back and smiled. A slow, beautiful and charming smile.
"Declan, right?" Her voice was just as beautiful as her face. It was enchanting and calm, like a mother singing to her child.
"Yes." he replied he was surprised with the amount of courage behind his words.
"I remember you.... You were drowning," she said as she dipped her head. She had made her voice to a hushed whisper. Declan had to strain to hear her over the wind and the sea.
"Who are you?" he asked her. She looked up and stared at him. He felt himself getting hotter and hotter under her steady gaze. She was moving closer to him, each step slow, sensual. Until she finally reached him. Declan found that he couldn't move. He stood there like a statue and watched as she leaned in close enough that her warm breath tickled the skin of his neck under his ear.
"You know who I am." she whispered.
"No I don't and what are you doing out here," he said. He could hear his voice shaking, no doubt she could too.
"I'm not going to hurt you Declan," she said softly. She moved a few steps back so he could regard her.
"Like you didn't hurt Bruno." He replied. Somehow he knew it was this girl before. His brain just hadn't caught up to the facts yet. Her expression didn't change as he said it. she simply shrugged. She could even make shrugging beautiful he thought.
"He deserved it. He was here on the beach with some cheap hooker while his wife was slaving away looking for him. He did this to himself," she said without emotion but he could see a spark of anger in her gold eyes as she said it.
"You didn't need to kill him....Loreley," he said looking her straight in the eye. The shaking had gone and he was standing straight and tall.
"We will have to see." she replied with a wicked glint in her eyes. "My, my look at the time I must be on my way. places to be people to scare." she walked up to him and rested her cheek on his. hers was cool where his were burning hot. He closed his eyes
"Ill see you at the mask ball," she said before backing away and walking past him to the ocean before she could get his reply. When he turned around a few seconds later he saw that she was gone.
Declan fell to his knees on the sand if she was seeing him at the mask ball then he only had two days to keep her from killing someone else. Declan pinched himself to make sure that this wasn't a dream. He was sure about two things. First . He was meeting a mass murderer at a mask ball. Second. he was sure now that the legend of Loreley was completely and utterly real....
