Declan got up from his sitting position of holding Loreley. He walked to the waters front and looked out. Could this be the spot where Loreley and his father made this promise?.It didn't make sense. Why would his father be talking to Loreley?. Unless he had fallen hopeless to her charms like the rest of the men se had seduced. His brain was working overtime trying to process the facts and information. His father, Loreley and pretty much anything else that would add to the crazy part of this.
He turned back to look at Loreley but when he did she was gone. He turned the other way only to find miles and miles of sand. He heard singing. beautiful enchanting singing that made his insides burn and his knees go weak. He understood why they called her a Siren. She was one of every sort. He looked out at the ocean. There, in the middle of the massive black blanket of water stood Loreley. On top of the water of all things. She reminded him of Jesus, of how he walked on water. But she was nothing of the religious sort. She stopped her singing and looked at him. Her golden eyes seemed to be the brightest thing in the night.
"Stay out of things you don't understand Declan," she said as she abruptly dropped and sank into the water. Declan still stared at the spot that she was standing on before, and for once he wasn't going to let her leave with those mysterious questions and riddles. He slipped off his shoes and unbuttoned the dress suit shirt. He was going to test the boundaries that she had given him. He started walking toward the water. He walked until he was neck deep into the cool ocean blue. Then he started to swim. Declan dove into the water, into the spot that she had once stood. The water rushing along his face was a sweet joy that he hadn't felt in a long time. Swimming was one of the few earthly pleasures that he loved and understood. The way the water could just carry you and take you anywhere.
Declan swam deeper and deeper until he was blue in the face, literally. The deeper he went the colder and darker the water became. He couldn't see anything now because he was so deep into the water. He felt the water closing in on his lungs, the breath being pushed out of him slowly before he began sinking. He let the water crash in on him and he let it take him to the deeps of the sea that no one had seen. He finally surrendered and closed his eyes. He felt like he was floating. He hadn't even realized that he wasn't in the water anymore. He was standing in the middle of a cube shaped white room. It was made of marble white material. The only furniture in the room, that stood out was a checker board couch in the centre of it. He blinked and when he opened his eyes again a man was sitting on the couch. It was a spitting image of him, except he looked a few years older than Declan did now. It was his father. He wore a simple loose white shirt which was unbuttoned at the neck showing the tanned muscle. He also wore white trousers which were fraying at the edges.
"Dad?" Declan said. His father opened his mouth to say something but the dream wobbled into wakefulness. It shook the walls and the images started to disappear. Declan tried to hold the dream, he reached out to his father, to make sure he was there. But his father disappeared into the black abyss that was now the image in his head. When Declan thought he was about to let go he heard something.
He heard, from his unconscious slumber, what sounded like water moving close to his face. Then the sweetest lips pressed down on his. Declan opened his eyes groggily underwater. Someone was kissing him. He saw jet black hair flying and pale white skin glowing in the dark water. Warm hands enveloped his face, heating him up. The more she kept her lips on his the more awake he became. But wait, she wasn't kissing him. She was breathing air into his lungs. Sweet air, that she didn't really need if she was giving it to him. He wanted more of it. The air was filling him up like a ballon and he knew that color had started to form back in his face. She swam, dragging him along up to the surface with her. She had a surprising amount of strength for one so slender.
When his face finally emerged above the surface again he was met with the cold wind that was blasting on his skin. He went in and out of consciousness waking up only to see her worried golden eyes staring down at him. He was so tired that he couldn't keep his eyes open anymore. So he closed them. He felt like he needed to sleep for a really long time before he would chose to wake up again. He heard a voice like honey dripping from a spoon. She said something he couldn't understand but the softness of her tone comforted him. Moments later he heard her sigh before he felt himself being dragged along the sand. Great, he thought wearily, one more thing to worry about, waking up in the middle of a place you don't know. Just like Vegas.
Declan grudgingly opened his eyes. It was as if someone had put a piece of cotton on top of his eyes. His vision was as blurry as that. The first thing that he registered was the ache in in body. His muscles felt creaky and he was a little disoriented due to the water pushing down on his skull. He put his arms underneath him and tried to lift himself up on his elbows when small hands gripped his shoulders and pushed him back to the ground. There was a blurry outline of a small figure. Declan already knew who it was. His vision finally cleared up and he could see Lorerely clearly now. She was on her knees, leaning over him. Her hair hung close to his face, close enough that he could smell the sea and the wind on her skin and hair. Above her head, the moon shone and highlighted the black making it look like a halo was on top of her head. It took Declan longer than he thought to wrench his eyes away from Lorerely's beautiful face. He finally realized where he was. It looked like a volcano, completley out of granite rock. The whole in top showed the moon that shone overhead over the pool making it glow a beautiful blue.
'Where am I?' he asked. He was still confused and he was pretty sure his head was throbbing.
'Your at the old Salem volcano. I didn't know where else to take you. I was scared that you wouldn't wake up." she replied. she was looking down, her dark hair hiding her face like a black sultry veil.
"wait, so no-one knows i'm here," he said more to himself than her.
Great he was stuck in an aboanded volcano with a serial man killer. Things could not have been more peachy, Declan thought sarcastically
