Declan froze. She moved back so she was a arms length, then threw her arms around his neck and pulled him to the dance floor. It must have took more force than she imagined to pull him towards the dance floor because Declan was as still as a brick wall. She finally managed to get him to the dance floor mad started gently swaying with him to the music. She didn't seem as effected by the news as he was.
"What do you mean someone is going to die tonight?" He asked her.he knew his voice with stiff and laced with fear. he looked around. He seemed to be the only one who knew who this girl was because everyone was giving her dares of wonder and interest.
"The wind sends messages. Did you know that?" she replied.
"No, I didn't." he didn't like that he kept avoiding the questions that he was asking. He wanted to get an answer out of her even if it was a small one.
"Look around Declan, does anything seem odd to you?" she asked. She was looking at him in a mischievous way that made the back of his neck itch. He did as he was told. Everything looked just fine. nobody was acting weird or doing anything stupid, it was a genuinely nice party.
"No, is something supposed to be out of place." he told her. He looked down at her, but her head was lowered against his shoulder to keep from seeing her face. Declan felt a wave of calm take over him. It was as if he was drifting in a slow current, feeling the water gently tug his body further out. He felt lightheaded.
"I think....I...need to sit..down." His voice was slurred and slow and he swayed a little when he tried to pull away from Loreley. she caught him before he fell, he tiny figure didn't look like it could hold much but she surprised when she pretty much dragged him from the deck to one of the chairs below. She sat him down on one of the hard white plastic chairs.
"It's okay Declan just rest i'll take of you," She said. Her voice seemed to be the only solid thing that he could hear. She crouched in front of him her gold eyes probing his and making him every more dizzy. He felt as if he was floating on a cloud high in the air and the oxygen was getting thinner around him. Finally the dizziness took him and he closed his eyes. the last thing he saw was the sad look in her beautiful gold eyes.
Declan was awaken by the sound of sirens. He was still seated on the plastic white chair and someone had taken of his jacket and put it over him as a blanket. Loreley was gone but the flashing red and blue lights of the police proved she could not have gone far. He got up and rubbed at his temples he had a massive headache and it was throbbing inside his head. He struggled getting breath in and out of his lungs. He took a few shaky steps towards where he could see his mother, being questioned by a cop. He walked so he could stand beside her.
"Mom what's going on? Where is Jordan?"He asked her he needed some answers. She turned towards him and hugged him. she was shaking with sobs.
"Jordan is fine i sent him home so he wouldn't have to deal with this. Apparently Shane went for a walk and he didn't come back so a few of his friends went looking for him. When they couldn't find him they came back here and..." she cut off because she erupted in sobs. He held her while she cried till she stopped crying.
"He was found bleeding at the bottom of the rock falls. his blood had spread all through the water and through he water fall," she said again trying to compose herself.
"It could have been you or Jordan but it had to be shane, Jordan's best friend," she said through her sobs. the police asked his mother a few more questions, despite Declan's protest that she was in no state of mind to answer anything, before he walked her home. He made her a cup of tea and left her to gather her thoughts. he made his way to bedroom, thinking about how to tell Jordan that his best friend was just found dead. When he finally got to room he didn't really need to tell Jordan anything. Jordan was standing by the window with his fists clenched and his body shaking. he turned at the sound of Declan coming into the room. His face was red and his eyes puffy from crying. He was hunched and tense and radiating anger. He nearly frightened Declan himself.
"Why? why did it have to be Shane?" he said as he stared hard at Declan. Declan didn't have an answer. Loreley really did it this time he thought to himself.
"I will avenge him. find out whoever did this and show them what it feels like." he said as he trembled with silent rage.
Jordan your not a kill-" Declan was saying before he got cut off.
"I don't care." he snapped back. he turned away from Declan and faced the window again.
"But answer me this one question," Jordan said with his back still turned.
"Yeah?" Declan replied knowing he wouldn't like like it.
"If you knew who the killer was would you tell me?" he asked.
