It wasn't hard for Declan to find his way back to his home. The sun was just rising on the horizon of the beach and it looked beautiful. The way the sun lit up the water to make it shine a crystal blue from the distance. He stood there for a while and admired it, for it had been a while since he had. Declan was suddenly bone crushingly tired. He couldn't stop thinking about want happened between him and Loreley. The thoughts of her creamy skin and soft lips was enough to make him fall over. He couldn't be with her. It just wouldn't work. They were two different people. She was a cold blooded killer and he...well he didn't know what he was. Perfect was far from what he was. He just didn't know. To help him find his way, Loreley had smartly gathered his clothes and led a path for him to follow. Every once in a while a piece of his clothing would show up and he would start dressing before he headed that way again.
By the time Declan reached his home, fully clothed, it was about high noon from the way the sun was positioned. He walked up the sandy path of his driveway and opened the dark cherrywood door. He very slowly crept inside, trying not to wake his mother and brother in the process. He went upstairs and checked on his mother. She was still fast asleep. She looked so peaceful that he didn't have the heart to wake her. She looked younger and more relaxed, like the mother who used to sing to him every night so he would sleep. He missed that woman. Very gently he shut the door in search of his brother. He found him wide awake, fully dressed, staring at the blank white wall of the room. He looked better than he did last night, which was a relief to Declan. He couldn't stand seeing his brother like that. And knowing that he had a part of Shane's death. Because he did. Just by knowing who was responsible for it he did. He still cringed when he thought about it.
"Where were you all night?" his brother asked numbly, never taking his eyes from the wall.
"I couldn't sleep. I went for a walk." he replied, walking around so Jordan's gaze would be on him and not the wall. He stood corrected, Jordan's eyes were still red and puffy as if he had cried in his sleep. The only appealing thing about him was that he was able to change his clothes.
"I saw what happened to Shane, you know," he said, dragging his solemn, dead pale blue eyes to his. "I will find the person who killed him. I know it was a woman. Shane fought back he took out a bit of her hair. I was the one who found him." he added. He held up a few strands of long black hair. This was not good. It meant his brother was getting close to the trail that he had so painstakingly hidden him from. His brother didn't want to be on this path. Heck, Declan didn't even want to be on this path. Before Declan could open his mouth to answer on earthquake of knocks smashed the door. They both jumped at the sound of the knocking. Whoever it was, was obliviously not a patient person. The knocking continued until they both snapped out of it and ran to the steps
Declan bounded down the stairs to the door. Whoever it was obviously couldn't wait. He felt his heart beating hard and fast in his chest as he anticipated what was to happen when he opened the door. Who could be making such a racket?, he wondered. And this time in the morning too. Declan very slowly and cautiously opened the door. A man stood there. Dressed entirely, from head to toe in black. he was tall, nearly nearing the height of the door frame. He was pale with a taut jawline and piercing pale blue eyes that seemed to stare further than your face. In Declan's opinion he wasn't bad or horrible looking.
"Hello. You must be Declan. I am Matthew Collins." The stranger said. Declan felt his eyes widen and his stomach drop all the way down. he recognized that name. For he had heard it when he was studying Loreley
That was the name of the man who broke Loreley's heart......
