Declan was still on the beach with Loreley when he realised what time it was. He had not paid much attention becauise he was toi busy listening to her plan. At first declan was horrified of what he had to do, but she soon explained that it was only temporary. After arguing about the plan and her threatening to rip his inards out through his nose, he finally said he would go through with her plan.
The sun was setting on the horizon when they said their goodbyes. Declan turned back to watch her darkened silloutette disappear into the ocean. On his way back to the house he caught something in the window. A shadow moving away from the half parted curtains. For a second he had felt eyes upon him. He thought it was Jordan moving away from the window, but Declan was to busy stressing about the plan to even pay attention to it.
He walked inside and immediately bumped into Matthew who was on his way out. He looked startled to see Declan but the look banished from his grey eyes as soon as it had appeared.
"Good afternoon Declan," he said as he moved past Declan through the open doorway. Before Declan could respond his retreating figure turned around. It seemed he had more to say.
"Oh and Declan, keep away from the beach lots of bad things happen there your mother is worried about you," he said while turning around again.
Declan stared off at him. He can't tell him what to do and he sure as hell can't tell his mother what to do about him. Just because he spent a little more time in Salem beach than he used to. Doesn't make him a villain. But it did make the person he went to see at the beach the villain. Declan got rid of the thought. He had to focus on more important things like the plan. He still wasn't entirely sure how the whole thing was supposed to work but he was still going through with it.
He walked inside and nearly collided with his mother who seemed to be coming outside.
"Oh, Declan there you are I was looking for you all day. You missed lunch," she said. But he could tell there was more meaning behind her words. She seemed scared almost frightened of him. She didn't look right. Her eyes had a look to them that meant she was going to run around like a lunatic. She seemed off lately, like someone had told her to do something she didn't want to do, but he could understand that because Loreley had just told him something that he had to do but he didn't want to.
He wanted to comfort her and keep her out of all of that. But she was just as far in as he was. And there was no getting out now.
"Declan, I don't want you to spend anymore time at Sale-" she didn't have time to finish because Declan had folded her in his embrace. He felt like a child again when she wrapped her arms around his back. Even though he was taller than her, she always had a way of making him feel small again. He knew what she was about to say but he hugged her tighter anyway.
"Honey, you haven't hugged me like this since you were a small boy. I didn't know how much I missed it until now," she said.
"I love you mom, I just wanted you to know that," he said before he released her and made his way upstairs before she could say anything else. He went to his room to sit on his bed. He was meeting Loreley tonight to go over the plan one last time. He thought he would sleep before that time happened. He shut his eyes and let himself slowly drift off to the sound of the sea crashing on the shore and the faint string of soft singing.
Later that night, when the sun had set and they were on the beach Loreley turned and faced him.
She was saying the last words to the plan.
"In order for the plan to work you have to die..."
