To (L/n)(F/n), there were two kind of people. Her and everyone else. She never liked socializing, never liked making friends, and she always wanted to be alone. Sure, she had girls talking to her and all, giving them polite answers but no one actually noticed that she mostly never continued her conversation. Just giving elaborated answers.
She preferred her life to be plain and boring. She never bothered to daydream about how exciting her life could be if she actually spend time outside and really make friends. Instead, she threw herself into endless amount of work, spending her breaks on watching anime, read. That's kinda all. Oh yeah, and her freaky analytical observations.
And then there was Tsukishima Kei. Like (F/n), he had the mindset that there was only him against the rest of the world. He had Yamaguchi, Hinata, Kageyama, the rest of the team so his life wasn't that of a bore. He was good-looking, yes. That's why a load of girls, probably almost the same amount as Oikawa, confess to him every single day of his life.
But, he still had the feeling that the world would never understand him.
Until, (F/n).

"Class, you will be assigned to your partner in this project assignment that is half of your mid-term grades. I'm choosing your partners since the last time, a handful of you never completed them," the beautiful and normally laid-back teacher gave a wide grin which clearly showed intense annoyance as she looked at the handful students.
There were some groans and hopeful pleading as majority of the girls snuck glances at the blonde who remained impassive at the announcement. On the inside, he growled at how he was supposed to socialize with another person other than Yamaguchi.
Deep into his brooding, he did not realize that everyone had gotten into their pairs and had started either introducing themselves or getting on with their work. A soft tap immediately alerted him as he glanced up to a pair of disinterested (e/c) eyes.
"(L/n)(F/n). Hajimemashite," she mumbled, sliding into the seat opposite him. "I'm your partner, Tsukishima-kun," she continued, pulling out her reference book. Tsukishima raised an eyebrow at her straight forward attitude as she blatantly ignored his blank stare.
"Okay... Whatever you say, Ms. Snarky."
She gazed up at him and sighed, looking a bit guilty. "I want to complete this ASAP so I don't have to spend time with another human for the next couple of weeks," she scoffed. Tsukishima furrowed his eyebrows. This was the (L/n)(F/n)? The one rumoredly supposed to be polite and mostly withdrawn?
Tsukishima grabbed his pencil and set to work quietly.

It's one thing to be confused about his work. Despite being a Smarty Pants most of the time, he still had to ask his teachers on how to do some of his work problems. And then, he would get it. Problem solved.
Heartfelt emotions were much more complicated. And annoying. Especially love. Yeah that.
For some reason, (F/n) attracted Tsukishima more than he should have. She gave short, careful responses as if one wrong word could trigger World War 3. She mostly gave small shrugs, nods and shake of a head, trying not to talk more than necessary.
She was distant, he would say.
By then, most of the pairs in the projects have hit off well, whether they had despised their partners initially. But the 'bonding' between Tsukishima and (F/n) remained almost non-existent. But, Tsukishima quite liked her, quiet, understanding, sarcastic at times (not as much as him. Maybe 10%?), oh and pretty.
