Chapter 23: Fighting in New York Part Two

❝I don't hate you❞

---------------------------------------------

Bruce begins to walk and looks behind him at all of us.

"Dr. Banner." Steve says and then pauses, "Now might be a really good time for you to get angry."

"That's my secret, Captain." Bruce says, "I'm always angry."

I smiled as he began to get bigger and was suddenly green and the Hulk. I paused to survey our situation in order to decide where exactly I wanted to be stationed in order to get rid of the most Chitauri.

All of a sudden, things start to catch fire and fall, I ran to crouch behind a car before Steve held up his shield in order to cover himself from the debris. Thousands of more chitauri soldiers start to fly out of the portal.

"We need to shut down that portal." I complain as I pop back out and head over to the others.

"Call it Cap." Tony yelled at Steve who looked up to see what we were all talking about.

"Alright, listen up. Until we can close that portal up there, we're gonna use containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Anya, can you be up there with him. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you get the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash." Steve paused and we all looked at him.

Clint glanced at me once before calling to Tony, "Wanna give me a lift."

"Right. Yeah. Better clench up, Legolas." I could practically hear Tony's smirk and I chuckled before Tony lifted Clint up.

"Hey, you better come back for me, Stark." I yelled after him.

"Wouldn't dream of leaving you behind darling." Tony called down.

"Right. Thor, you've gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You've got the lightning. Light the bastards up." Steve told him and he nodded, lifting his hammer and flying up. Steve turned to Natasha, "You and me, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here. And Hulk. Smash."

Banner grinned and leaped up. I scanned the sky as Tony swooped down again and I stepped towards him but glared at him a little, "Keep it appropriate Stark."

"Don't I always?" Tony joked and wrapped an arm around my waist as I put one of my arms around his neck.

I laughed as he lifted me up into the sky and began flying towards the building where Clint was already standing, his bow at the ready, "Alright Tony. You don't have to fly me all the way down. I'll manage."

"Alright." Tony let me go and I fell down through the sky, tucking myself into a small ball before rolling as I hit the ground, wincing a little as I bruised my shoulder. I stood up and rolled my shoulder gently before heading over to Clint and pulling my bow off of my back.

"Alright Clint. Ready to compete with my frozen arrows? Or have you forgotten my cool powers?" I smirked at Clint.

Clint shook his head at me and began to fire arrows into the streaming flow of the chitauri riders and he seemed to hit his mark every time, "Well, try to keep up, darling."
