[6] The New Guy

Chapter 6 The New Guy

Natasha landed the quinjet and we all climbed in. Tony and Steve supporting Loki and dumping him in a seat before tying him and cuffing him to it.

I noticed Natasha talking into her headset and I assumed to Nick Fury. He was the one who sent us on this crazy mission in the first place.

I let my gaze travel to the window where I watched the sky. Thunder suddenly started up, coming out of nowhere. Needless to say I was rather surprised. Not scared surprised, just shocked surprised.

I went over to Tony and Steve and sat next to Tony as there was no empty seat near Steve.

Steve spoke up first, "I don't like it."

"What? Rock of Ages giving up so easily?" Tony asked. Typical name-calling again. But that was Tony for you.

I rolled my eyes at him, "Stark. Stop making up nicknames for people."

Tony gave me a look, "Why should I? You know, I need a new nickname for you. Should it be cupcake?"

I groaned, "You're impossible. And NO don't call me that!"

"Hmmm...Cupcake doesn't suit you. I'll have to think about this one. I'll get back to you later." Tony narrowed his eyes at me as Steve decided to speak.

"I don't remember it being ever that easy. This guy packs a wallop." Steve said.

"Still, you are pretty spry, for an older fellow. What's your thing? Pilates?" Tony asks.

"What?" Steve asks obviously confused. Well, he had been asleep for a long time. What was it? 70 years? 80?

"It's like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple things, you know, doing time as a Capsicle." Tony says being rude again. Then again, when is he ever not rude?

Steve looks at Tony annoyed, "Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in."

"Yeah, there's a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you." Tony says.

Just then thunder and lightning crash across the sky and nearly hit our jet. The jet shakes violently and I grab onto the side of the jet for support.

"You know. You could have just grabbed onto me. I would have protected you." Tony shoots me a smile.

I groan, "Don't you have a girlfriend, Stark?"

"What Pepper doesn't know won't kill her." Tony says in a sing-song voice.

"Well she would know because I would be the one to tell her." Natasha and I say at the exact same time and shoot each other grins.

Then Natasha speaks, "Where's this stuff coming from?"

Thunder rumbles overhead again and Loki takes to staring out the window.

"What's the matter? Scared of a little lightning?" Steve asks in a teasing manner.

"I'm not overly fond of what follows." Loki responds.

Right then a blinding light hits the jet. I turn away from the light and then someone opens the ramp and we all grab onto something for support. Sadly, this time I actually grab onto Tony but he says nothing. Then the person grabs Loki by his throat and flies out leaving us all dubstruck.

"Who the hell was that?" I ask.

"Now we have that guy." Tony says and puts his helmet on.

"Another Asgardian?" Natasha asks

"Think the guy's a friendly?" Steve asks.

"Doesn't matter. If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost." Tony turns and gets ready to jump off the jet in order to chase after the person and Loki.

"Stark, better not do that." I put an arm out to stop him.

Tony turns around and looks at me, "Oh lookie here. Anya actually cares about my safety." he smirks.

I roll my eyes and say nothing.

"Stark, we need a plan of attack!" Steve says, backing me up.

"I have a plan." Tony says and then pauses, "Attack." Tony puts his helmet on and then jumps out of the jet.

Steve starts to grab for a parachute and I follow suit but Natasha stops us, "I'd sit this one out, Cap. You too Anya."

"I don't see how I can." Steve protests and I nod.

"These guys come from legends, they're basically gods." Natasha protests.

"There's only one God, ma'am. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." Steve says and with that he jumps out of the jet.

I pull my parachute on and smile encouragingly at my sister, "Don't worry Tasha. I'll be fine. Just keep the jet close in case you need to come in and get one of the boys." I smirk and with that I jump out of the jet.
