It's a Hard Knock Life (pt 1)

Plot: an Annie AU with Dan and Phil as best friends who live a rich lifestyle and adopt a child named Winston, or Dil.

Winston Chastain is a 12 year old orphan living in the London Foster Care for Boys. His guardian, Mr. Spencer, was really harsh on Phil.

He resides in a foster home for a reason. His dad was a drug addict and abuser, and his mom committed suicide when he was young because of her depression and abuse she went through. He went into many foster homes when he got older, but all treated him the same way.

Everyday at school, he gets bullied and has no friends. He gets called "faggot" and "gaylord" by all the popular kids once he walks into the halls. The strict teachers there don't help at all, so he doesn't see the point in expressing his thoughts to anyone.

"Winston! You better clean or else you'll only have bread and milk for dinner. Understand?" Mr. Spencer commanded demandingly.

"Yes sir." Winston mumbled to him. The 54 year old made a face in disgust. "I can't hear you!" "YES SIR!" he shouted loudly. "That's better." Mr. Spencer said softly, a devilish smirk painted on his face.

Winston really wanted a family that treated him with love and care; something he never had in his life. He wanted to find out what true happiness was.

Dan Howell, a very successful entrepreneur, selling many pieces of technology, was a 24 year old man who always wanted to care for a child.

He ordered his 27 year old best friend and assistant, Phil Lester, to find him a boy to care for a few days. Phil wanted a child to care for too, so he was quite thrilled.

Phil had a huge crush on Dan, but Dan was bi, so there's a chance he might get a girlfriend. They're technically going to be parents though.

He went to the foster home, and talked to Mr. Spencer. "Hello, are you Mr. Spencer?" Phil asked politely. He was a very social person. "Yes, I am..." The older man said gloomily.

"I'm Phil. Phil Lester. W-Well...I was just wondering if I could adopt a child? M-Maybe one with green eyes and brown hair?"

Mr. Spencer glared evilly. "Adopt, really? They all need to be adopted by 14. The only kid here with that description is Winston, and he's 12."

Phil glared back. "Look, I'm Dan Howell's assistant, and if you don't let me adopt him, I'm gonna make him give me the child himself."

"Look, you can take care of him for 3 days, and we'll see if you guys can adopt him." Mr. Spencer said quickly, putting his hands up in surrender. Phil smiled smugly, chirping a little "thank you" in response.

He called Dan on the phone.
"Hello? Phil speaking."
"Hi, Phil. Have you managed to adopt a child?"
"Yes, sir. We can only care for him for a few days, and the owner of the orphanage will see if we can actually adopt him. His name is Winston, but let's name him Dil."
"That sounds amazing, yeah! Good job, Phil!"
"Thanks, Dan. He's coming over in a few minutes."
"Great! Well, see you and Dil back at home, bud."
"Bye, Dan."
"Bye."
"Love you." Dan whispered in the phone once Phil hung up. Dan has a very big crush on Phil, but he tries to hide it in fear of rejection.
He wants to start a family with him, as well as get married. If only he knew about Phil's feelings.

"Winston! Someone's here to pick you up. Pack your bags." Mr. Spencer called from downstairs.

Oh god, am I gonna be placed into another foster home again?

"Yes, sir." Winston said blankly before packing his bags, putting his important things. He waved goodbye to Mr. Spencer, and walked from his room.

He was shocked when a tall man with blue eyes and pale skin with glasses was walking the same way as him.

Is this guy gonna be my new father?

"Hi, Dil-I mean, Winston. I'm Philip Lester, call me Mr. Lester or Phil!"

"Uhh, h-hi, I'm Winston. Dil seems like a nice name." Winston said, smiling a bit. This was one of the first times that he's ever smiled.

They walked to the car that Phil drove, and once they got to the mansion, Winston was astounded to how big the house was.

"Woah...I've never seen a house this big before." Winston said, his mouth opening in surprise. Phil laughed. "Well, now you have. You're gonna love it here, I promise.

"Well this is Dan. Dan and I are going to be your guardians for a few days, maybe even adopt you and make you part of our 'family'."

Dan waved at Winston, and wrapped an arm around Phil, making him blush. "Hi, Winston. I'm Dan Howell, you can call me by Mr. Howell or Sir. We'll call you 'Dil' since it's a mix of me and Phil's names. I really hope you'll like it here."

Winston smiled. "Okay, Mr. Howell. I actually like the name Dil, it's a nice name and I think it's suits me." Dan let out a light chuckle. "Well, unpack your bags and enjoy here."

"I will. Thank you guys so much." The brown haired boy said. He really loved it so far, even if he hasn't stayed a night here. The two seem so nice and they treat him with care, which he's never had in his life.

Well then, this is gonna be a new path in life I definitely will enjoy. Winston thought as a small smile was painted on his face. He put his clothes in the drawer, finally settling into his temporary home that he hopes of being a part of for the rest of his life.
