Love Is In The Air...or Is It? (part 1)

Plot: Phil is in love with Dan, except Dan has never felt true love before and isn't sure about his feelings. Thanks to LittleWizardLuna for this prompt!

Don't worry, this is only part one. Part two will be a much more happier chapter.

Phil was in his room, doubting himself. He was in love with his best friend, Dan. Daniel James Howell, a handsome, funny, smart, and caring person who's caused Phil to fall head over heels for the younger.

I feel like it's time to confess. It's been almost 7 years since we've formed a friendship together, and I'm risking it in order to be with you.

He went downstairs, and saw the brown haired man in his sofa crease. His browsing position was way more attractive than how he showed it in the "Day in the Life of Dan and Phil!" video.

"Hey, Dan?" Phil asked out of the blue. Dan looked up at the sound of Phil.

Wow, his hair looks gorgeous today.

Dan took that thought out of his mind instantly. He did like Phil, but in a platonic way. Bad experiences with love in the past caused him to avoid feeling it, and it's been that way ever since.

"C-Can I talk to you about something?" Phil asked, a nervous tone evident in his voice. Dan nodded, patting the spot next to him.

Phil sat down at that exact spot, having many thoughts swirling in his mind.

What if he rejects me?

What if he kicks me out?

What if-

"So, what happened, buddy?" Dan asked, a hand on his shoulder. That snapped Phil out of his thoughts. He decided to just speak his heart out on Dan.

"Well, you see, I...I'm in love with you.  I've fell for you because you're just so caring and handsome and...do you love me back?" Phil asked, not one sign of confidence shown.

"I...I'm so sorry, Phil but I just can't feel love anymore. I like you, I really do, but only in a platonic way. Can we just stay friends?"

Phil's heart shattered into pieces at that statement. He felt so broken inside. Dan was the only one whose caused him to feel true love, and he wanted to stay friends only? He did understand that he just can't change how Dan feels and he respects his true feelings, but he just can't take it anymore.

"O-Okay, Dan. Well, umm, I'll be in my room." Phil walked slowly up the stairs, putting a lot of effort into looking alright.

Phil was silently sobbing into his blue and green pillow. He doesn't know how it feels to be rejected by his best friend.

He decided to call PJ, his other best friend. It ringed and he stayed silent until a friendly "Hello!" was greeted from the phone.

"H-Hi PJ, I have a problem."

"Sure, mate. What's the problem, buddy?"

"I-Its just that...You know how I like Dan?

"Yeah, you've told me all about what's going on. So, did ya get with him?"

Phil can feel PJ smirk from his phone. "Well, I tried and, uh..he wants to be friends. Apparently he's never felt real love before."

"Aw, Phil. It will be okay. I know it's hard for your best friend and crush to reject you, but it'll get better. Plus it's so obvious he likes you."

Phil giggled at the younger boy's comment, while PJ made a serious face from the other line. "No Phil. I'm serious. It's actually obvious he's fallen for you."

"And how do you know for sure, Peej?" Phil asked, curious. He wanted to know more. It felt nice having PJ to talk to since he's so caring and brightens up everyone's moods when they're down.

"He looks at you with so much love in his eyes literally every situation we're in. I mean, Ariana Grande was in the room and he still looked at you with his heart eyes. Fucking Ariana Grande, for crying out loud."

Phil thought about the times Dan pulled a "heart eyes Howell" as fans have called it. Whenever he looks at him, he tries so hard not to blush.

"Second of all, when you guys were cuddling in your apartment when Chris and I came over. He just hugged you so close to his chest, and even kissed you on the head. And yes, I saw that."

"I-I mean it could be seen in a platonic way too. He did kiss me in his sleep, but that was only once!" Phil exclaimed as quiet as possible. He didn't want Dan hearing him.

Jesus Christ, we're talking like teenage girls.

"Why does he act so different around you? One moment he's mischievous around me and Chris, but when it's just you and Dan, he acts so sweet like a boyfriend. He even put his arm around you at that party when that girl tried to flirt with you!"

"I don't know, Peej. I think he still wants to be just friends, but at the same time I have hope." Phil said sadly.

"I'm going Sherlock on this shit. I just have hope for Phan to finally be a thing!" PJ said happily. Phil smiled, he's such Phan trash.

"Thanks for being here for me, PJ. You're such a great friend." PJ on the other line smiled.

"Of course, Phil. If you have any more problems having to do with him, call me. I'll be here for you."

Just then, Dan came up to Phil's room, which was vibrant and colourful unlike Phil right now, who was quiet and in his bed, doing nothing unlike his usual self playing games and smiling.

"Goodnight, Phil." Dan went closer to where Phil was and kneeled down to the bed's level.

Phil still didn't talk. He did make some random yet cute mumbles and rambles as he was falling into a silent slumber.

When Phil was fast asleep, Dan greeted him another goodnight. He kissed the soft cheek of the other, stroking his black strands of hair. Phil's eyes instantly went wide open, a pink blush creeping onto his cheeks.

Dan didn't say anything after what he did, and walked silently to his room. Phil was shocked, but his heart was melting and his stomach filled with butterflies.

He would talk to Dan about it, but when he rejected him last time, he wanted to make sure not to get hurt once more. He still does have his hopes up high, and with PJ by his side, he'll have his chance to live a happier life, along with a lover alongside him.
