I let out a quiet giggle as Calum's roaring laughter sounds through his open house the second we open his front door. What we were discussing wasn't funny in the least bit, so I don't know why he was laughing, but I was laughing because his is contagious.
It was Friday afternoon and I'd been staying with him for almost a week now, and I had really gotten to know him and his family.
I loved their playful banter and the strange stories they'd have to tell; embarrassing stories about Calum were my favorite, but they all encountered some strange things throughout their days as well.
They had accepted me into their family and daily lives so easily, and I was extremely grateful for it. They genuinely seemed to enjoy having me stay with them which was puzzling but there wasn't a way to ask why that wouldn't sound rude.
The past week Calum had only slept in his bed a total of two times, because he was an asshole who would move me every night. I wasn't going to let it happen again.
Placing my bag to the side, my eyebrows raise when Calum's front door opens again. His family would all be out for a few more hours, and I was looking at him, so that leaves those options out. However, instead of going with the other logical choice, my heart pounds and my breathing heavies in the slightest.
When I see Luke, Michael, and Ashton it slows making my breathing begin to go back to normal, but I'm upset with myself for being an idiot and assuming it was my father, I'm the only reason that I'm so fucked up. Nobody did it to me, I do it to myself.
Luckily nobody notices which allows me to get away with my mental fuck up. Thank God for them all being oblivious to a bunch of shit.
"Why're you guys here?" Calum tilts his head in confusion.
"We agreed on Wednesday that we'd all meet up here today and do our English homework that's due monday..." Ashton trails off. Shit, that's right, we have English homework. "Did you two forget about that?"
We both shrug as the three boys in the doorway roll their eyes at us and take out their homework, finding seats at the kitchen table. I haven't seen too much of them outside of school this week, Calum said it would be cool for me to bond with his family if I were to be staying here; though they were out after school anyways.
Our English homework turns out to be pretty simple, mostly because our teacher doesn't really care too much. We're currently reading some famous story written by someone who's dead now and had different expectations of literature when they were alive. It's the most bland thing I've ever read before, and the characters are way over exaggerated.
Nevertheless, I still read it and do the work on it because if not then I'll never graduate high school. Plus we're almost finished with the book.
"We miss both of you," Michael pouts, his bright red bottom lip jutting out way more than it should. "What've you two done all week? We've barely seen you assholes," Michael pretends like it hurts when I playfully slap his arm.
Calum and I haven't actually done too much all week, we hung out with his sister and parents a bit when they got home. We definitely opted out of playing Wii Sports again.
"When are you coming home, Em?" Luke bites his lip.
"I don't know," I look down to avoid eye contact. I thought maybe I could go back soon but then I started thinking about my father again and even thought he was the one at the door today, so I'm not too sure. "I'm gonna go plug my phone in upstairs, I'll be right back." I mumble. It's not a lie, but it helps me escape.
