~...yes, I'm Derby City raised but I'm not local ...~
"I can't just throw Harley on my Grandma, man. It's basically my first full day here," I spoke into the phone.
"If you ask her, I'm sure she won't mind," Swan encouraged," Mama Ann probably wants to spend some quality time with Harley."
"What do you want me to go for?" I asked sitting on the edge of the guest bed.
"It's just a BBQ, Bryson. Damn. Chilling with some old friends, eating good, and mingling some."
"The only friend I got is you and Elijah. I don't fuck off like that and you know it."
I guess you could say I was a bit on the anti social side. I wasn't shy all the time, I just didn't like to talk to people I felt that didn't deserve my time. That just happened to be a lot of people. I was cool for the most part when you got to know me for ME.
"Since I'm your friend come roll with me and Camille. It won't be long. Just a mild turn up," Swan persuaded.
"Do you not realize how many times you've told me that old ass lie?" I chuckled," A mild turn up to you is from now until dawn."
"Nigga, shut the hell up and just be ready to go in 45."
"Whatever," I sighed declining the call.
I got up and walked into the kitchen to see Harley with a over sized apron on. She was standing in one of the table chairs with a cookie dough covered spatula in hand. Grandma Ann was standing next to the mixer.
"What's going on in here ladies?" I asked giving Harley a kiss on the cheek.
"Cookies," Harley smiled licking the raw batter," Chocolate chip and walnuts."
I smiled back at the memory. Gran used to fix those cookies for me and Eric every other Friday after school. We couldn't eat not one until all the chores and homework were done. Grandma Ann used to be over the top like that all the time especially when it came to class work. I guess because she was a retired schoolteacher.
"Can I have some?"
Harley turned her back to me and shook her head," All mines."
I began to fake cry but she just laughed.
"Are you going bald?" Gran asked me. I raised my eyebrow at her.
What is she trying say?
"Cause you sure do wear a hat every day," she added," you have nice hair boy. Quit hiding it."
"I'm not going bald," I shook my head opening the fridge to get my Calypso," I just like to wear'em. Makes me feel...I don't know...mysterious."
"Feel? You are," she hummed.
"Eh. Do you mind watching Harley for like a hour or two?"
"Not at all, we aren't finished baking anyways. Plus she's an angel. Where you headed?"
"Out with Swan real quick. Some BBQ party thing Camille's cousin is having," I explained," I won't belong though."
