~...I know we ain't had a conversation in a minute...~

"I want this kind!" Harley pouted shoving a box of berry flavored Captain Crunch in my face.

Grandma Ann had sent us to the store on a grocery run that I didn't mind making for her since she watched Harley for me yesterday evening.

"I'm not buying that for the last time," I groaned in aggravation.

Harley had been picking up random items all throughout the store and kept begging me to get them for her. I admit, I allowed her to get a couple of them, but now she's over doing it.

Harley stared at me as if she was trying to mind control me into putting the cereal in the cart.

"No," I repeated shaking my head. Harley instantly dropped the cereal box on the floor and crossed her arms angrily.

Is she really throwing a fit right now?

"Pick it up," I told her using a stern tone.

Harls rapidly shook her head at me. I sighed and reached down for it to put it back on the shelf. Harley let out a high pitched scream.

I did not sign up for this.

Only Marlena had her spoiled like this, yet I was the 'bad' parent.

"Quit acting out before you get a whooping," I warned," I'm going to let grandma do it and she hurts."

Harley mean mugged me for the longest but she did stop. For now that is.

I picked up a loaf of bread and tossed into the cart as Harley skipped around in front of me humming a tune.

"Harley, don't go too far ahead of me," I called her name.

It was as if she had tuned every word I just mentioned out, because she turned down another isle without me.

"Come back here."

Harley continued to ignore me and skipped along out of my sight.

"Fuck," I sighed heavily as I left the basket in the middle of the aisle to go get her.

"Harley!" I called her name but I didn't see her.

I heard her voice though. She was giggling and talking to someone.

I have no problem killing someone over her.

"Harley," I yelled once more going down the vegetable aisle.

There she was standing next to some woman. I couldn't quite tell who it was because their back was turned to me. I shook my head at her once I noticed Harley was looking dead at me.

"Come here right this instant," I threatened stomping my foot and trying to sound mad but I couldn't be. She's too damn cute! Harley acted like I wasn't there and went back to talking to the woman.

The lady suddenly twirled around to look in my direction.

It was Naomi.

"Cute kid," she smiled pinching Harley's cheek.

Harley hated when I did that, but she smiled when Naomi did it.

"Thanks," I coughed scooping Harley up in a tight grip.

"I didn't do anything," Harley explained with big eyes.

"You ran off. Don't you ever do that again," I scolded.

Harley nodded as she wrapped her arms around my neck.

"Thanks for...not hurting her I guess," I thanked Naomi.

"And I guess you're welcome," she laughed," How old is she?"

"I'll be 4 next week," Harley spoke up for herself, putting four fingers up in the air.

"Wow, big girl huh?" Naomi asked.

"I try to tell this guy that," Harley giggled poking my cheek.

"Dads will never understand that," Naomi explained," but...how are you doing Bryson?"

"Fine. Just running some errands. And you?"

"I'm ok. Even better now," Naomi smirked.

Is she flirting with me?

"Nice to know," I cleared my throat.

I'm clearly making this more awkward than what it had to be.

"Do you have kids?" Harley interrupted.

"Nah," Naomi laughed.

"Do you like 'em?"

"Yes, very much," Naomi answered her," I enjoy children."

"You married miss?"

Naomi shook her head with a grin," No, not yet."

"You don't have to answer her silly questions--" I started to say but Harley covered my mouth with her tiny hand.

"Boyfriend?"

"No," Naomi giggled.

"You want to hear a joke I got from tv?" Harley asked with a sly grin.

"Harley I'm pretty sure--" I began to say.

"Why not?" Naomi shrugged cutting me off," I'd love to."

"This," Harley smiled grabbing my shirt collar," is boyfriend material."

My cheeks grew red, so I pulled down my hat to where no one would notice.

Harley laughed hysterically at her own joke and Naomi was just as tickled.

"Alright that's enough," I told Harley setting her back down on the ground.

"Classic," Naomi high-fived her," She's quite the character Bryson."

"Tell me about it," I uttered scratching my kitchen.

"I've got to go, but I still want to catch up with you sometime," Naomi mentioned," Sometime soon."

"Um...sure."

I didn't really know what we could possibly have to catch up on. We were never friends. Ever. Although, I couldn't deny that I found her attractive, and maybe she wasn't as bad as I remember her to be. We're grown now and that was the past.

I'm still not trying to get serious with anybody nowadays. Maybe we could just be casual acquaintances or something since Harley seemed to like her so far.

"How 'bout lunch? Is this Saturday ok?" Naomi suggested.

I looked at Harley who was nodding her head up and down.

"Sure why not," I agreed.
