~...you know I deserve it, I've been working this hard...~
Naomi's POV
"Naomi, a word please," my boss, Monica, said waving me over," in my office."
"Sure," I nod taking my attention off my computer screen. I got up out my rolling chair and followed her down the hall.
Monica shut the door once we were in there alone.
"Let's have a little girl talk shall we?" She smiled sitting at her desk with her long, tan legs crossed," Have a seat, dear."
I sat down across from her in a wooden chair that was highly uncomfortable. I rarely was invited inside of her office. No one really was. The last person to do so was called in to receive their walking papers. I hope I'm not the next to get fired.
Of course not. You're a hard worker. You do your job and you do it well.
"I've noticed how hard you've been working trying to get at the Senior Executive Editor position," Monica mentioned.
I smiled," Yes, I'm really interested in the promotion and I promise--"
"You're not going to get it," Monica said flat out.
"Wha-why? What did I do wrong?" I asked heart broken.
I had been busting my ass for the past two months for her to tell me no.
I think the fuck not."It's not about what you did, it's about what you didn't do. Which is give me a hard hitting celebrity insider! I need a juicy story, Naomi. Something like a tell-all or an Internet breaker. That's if you want that position as much as you seem to."
"I do want it. I want it more than anyone else in this office," I protested.
"Then show me because I'm from Missouri, dear. I need an article from you that's so damn good that the President of the United States will fall out his chair."
"Ok I will. I'll get you a story."
"A good story," Monica corrected me tapping on her desk,"and I want it on my desk before this month is over."
"That's only 3 weeks!" I objected.
Monica just shrugged,"Are you saying that I can go ahead and give the position to someone else then?"
"No!" I shook my head," No, I'm the girl for the job. I swear."
"Alrighty then," she sighed clicking her pen several times," You're dismissed."
I got up and walked out of her office.
I never had to get a celebrity story while I've had this job at XXL for 3 years. All I did was small interviews and took footage for the upcoming rappers in the XXL freshman covers and things like that. I never had to exactly do work for musical celebrities already in the game.
How could Monica possibly think I was ready to jump into that just to get the Senior Editing position?
I wanted that spot badly though. It was going to almost double my pay if I got it too. Even though I know it is going to be hard to get a celebrity to actually sit down and tell me some personal things, I did have an idea.
Bryson.
We weren't close at all...yet.
But by the way lunch went the other day (full of laughs, jokes, and small talk) we could be on our way. We were starting over from all that high school bullshit. It's still going to be hard to get him to talk to me because everyone in he media industry knows: Bryson Tiller doesn't do interviews.
And if he did, it was only audio.
This was going to be tough with only a three week deadline, but I'm about my business. All the time.
