Chapter 4:

I looked away as quickly as I could, as the face in the drivers' seat turned towards us, revealing itself through the window. I turned around, facing the opposite way of the car, hoping some how I could escape this awkward situation.

Hopefully he didn't remember me.

"Coral?" I heard Delilah say.

I tried to come up with an excuse.

"Coral, what're you doing, don't you want to meet Ace?" She walked over to me, and whispered.

Maybe if I pretend like this is my first time meeting him, he won't remember. That's going to be hard, since I live next to him. Delilah grabbed my right arm and gently turned me around. She was still grinning.

"Hi." I tried not to sound awkward, and gave him a little wave with my hand. He looked at me for a few seconds, debating in his head where he recognized me from, but eventually waved back awkwardly and replied;

"Hi."

"Ace, this is my best friend, Coral." She said looking from me to him. Smiling like she had just won the lottery. I just looked at the tree behind him, trying to avoid eye contact.

"Hey, aren't you that girl from yesterday, the one that got locked out?" He asked chuckling, after studying my face for a good minute.

"Yeah, um hi." I replied, great.

"Does this mean, you guys have already met?" Delilah questioned in case of clearing up her confusion, her grin getting wider.

I was about to explain when Ace spoke up.

"Yeah, she got locked outside her house yesterday; she's my mom's neighbor."

I nodded and Delilah's mouth formed an O.

"Wait, your mom lives next to Coral? Wow this is a small world." Delilah registered the new information she had just received. Ace's tone was much lighter then it was yesterday.

His mom; did this mean he didn't live with his mom. That's good news.

"Nice meeting you Ace, I'll see you later Delilah." I said, turning around quickly and walking towards the exit of the parking lot.

"Wait, where are you going? We're going over to mine." She said facing me as she walked backwards to the car's passenger door. Not only was this going to be awkward, but I was going to be a third wheel. Wait, had Delilah told Ace about him her plan of him being my cousin and all?

I had taken a few steps towards the exit, when Delilah caught up with me, and I asked,

"Delilah, does he know about your plan? I whispered.

"I don't want him to feel weird about meeting my mom, like I don't want him to feel like I don't trust him or anything."

"How are we going to do it if he doesn't know?" I asked, I had no idea where Delilah was going with this.

"We'll figure it out, don't worry. She reassured me once again when I didn't reply.

I let out a whip of breath and we both turned around, walking back to his car.

"You guys ready?" He asked with his window still down, backing out of the parking space.

"Yeah," Delilah chirped happily.

We both walked to the car, she sat in the passenger seat while I sat in the back, behind her seat. He backed the car out of the parking lot. Gladly, Delilah didn't live that far so that was good.
