"I don't think that we should be around each other
When you're in the room, you get my eyes
You open your mouth, I'm hypnotized
I can make you laugh until you cry
You know you got all my attention
You know you got all mine.
" - The Neighbourhood

Chapter 18:

Everyone stared at me and I silently prayed that Jaiden or someone else would do something to get rid of the unsettling silence.

My prayers were answered when something clashed to the floor.
Everyone's attention snapped to the loud bang, glass shattering sound, including me.

A bowl lay upside down on the ground, its previous contents sprawled on the tile kitchen floor. A trail of the red whatever-that-is, leading up to the counter his sister was sat on.

She stared at the mess on the floor and grinned goofily.

"Uh-oh." She said and clapped her hands, a squeak-giggle escaped her mouth as she continued to lick her fingers.

"Uh, not again." His mom cried and rushed over to the counter.

I smiled, how adorable.

Jaiden squeezed my hand and mumbled a sorry. I assured him it was fine by rubbing his hand with my thumb.

Jade snorted and went back to eating her ice cream. The only one who paid attention to me and Jaiden was his dad.

"Nice to meet you Coral." He said and put down the lid of his laptop.

We talked to his dad, he told me to call him Joe instead of Mr. Margott or whatever. Margaret, his mother, apologized for the mess his sister, Jenna, made.

Jade left saying she had to do something, she said she'd be back later to interrogate me. She was joking of course. I liked Jade, she was really friendly and open. I had a great feeling we would get along really well.

We talked to his parents for a while, they told me about their family and I answered their questions. They were cool, really cool. I liked his family.

They were from Chicago but moved to Gurnee in June of 2014.

Jaiden had a apartment in Chicago ready for when he had to move back there for his freshman year of college in August. Jade was only home for the weekend, she had to go back to Loyola on sunday.

Me and Jaiden were going to go get food, but we stayed talking to his family, it was great and then Margaret asked us to stay for dinner.

So here I was, helping Margaret set up the table. Jaiden and Joe had to, unfortunately, go out to do something, I didn't ask what because it's none of my business but they promised to be back by eight. It was about seven now, and to be honest, I felt close to the Margotts. It had been a good few hours at his house and it's like I'd never feel this close to Jaiden again. It was odd, but soft and warm.

With his family, I felt like I could do all the fun things families do. It wasn't quite like that with my own since everyone was absolved with themselves.

The Margotts, though, ate together, they had family meetings and such where they consulted each person to make sure everything was good, and they made every individual decision together. It was strange, they were so close even when they saw each other every few weeks.

Yet, at home, we lived together and still never really talked about anything. I had no idea what Cory had been up to, I had no idea how things were going with mom and dad. I only thought about myself. I'm not complaining though, I like things the way they are.
