Chapter 16:
Kris
"We're here." I said, giving my muscles a stretch. My shoulders were tense and my back had been cramping up the whole car ride.
I turned to Coral to find her head resting against the window, black hair winding down her small frame. She was snoring.
Snoring? I let out a small smile. Of course she would fall asleep. All that arguing probably took a toll on her.
I nudged her a little to get her to wake up but all she did was groan and push my hand away. I got out of the car and went to her side.
She looked like she was in a deep sleep, and would probably throw another fit or start a argument on something completely random if I woke her up. I carefully picked her up and closed the car door with my foot.
It was still raining, not as hard though. I scurried to the door.
Coral squinted as the sharp droplets hit us, piercing the warmth from the car.
Fortunately, she wasn't really heavy. Once I got to the door, I didn't know how to open it though. I was carrying her bridal style and if I released a hand from her balance, she would surely fall.
I reached my left hand out, resting the under side of her knees on my forearm. My hand was shaky as I tried to unlock the door.
After a few seconds of struggle, I finally got it. I quickly made my way over to the couch and dropped her. When I say I dropped her, I really did. I was expecting her to roll off but gladly she didn't.
She smelt like vanilla, pine cones, and a bit of alcohol. She was covered in some, but it was hardly noticeable.
I closed the front door and got a blanket for her. We were always in some sort of batter, but she was peaceful when she slept. It was kind of cute, actually.
This was really nice of me, she'd surprise herself if she saw the work I was putting into making her comfortable. I wasn't as bad as she made me out to be, but then again, I really hated everyone. Especially her.
Oh the contradictions!
I shouldn't be doing all this, probably should've just left her in the car.
I ran a hand through my hair. Now what? I could call Jaiden but then he'd show up here and I didn't want to deal with him. It was true that he asked me to take her home, but he didn't know I was going to bring her to MY house. She would freak out if I told her about that, plus she didn't sound so happy with Jaiden earlier.
How did they end up together? Oddly, I didn't like it. In a few months, he'd be gone. Plus he was older then her anyways.
How long had she known him? A few days? She was so cozy with him, yet so cold with me. Comparing myself with Jaiden was pointless and I don't know why I did it. I was better then him, obviously. He had no chance with Coral.
