Chapter 7:
"Hey! Sorry I took so long." Delilah spoke, bringing my focus back to reality as I looked up from my phone. I put it in my pocket and stood up. She took at least twenty minutes. Ace was standing, still lost in his phone. Delilah gave me a small smile and we started walking towards the parking lot.
Once in the car, it was oddly quiet. Ace turned on the radio and Locked Away by R. City started playing and I thought about the lyrics and looked out the window. Soon, we were in Dunkin's parking lot. I went in first and sat at the table in the back. I could look out the window and sitting up front meant listening to the sound the door makes every time someone walks in, I didn't like that sound much. Delilah and Ace followed suit, Ace stopping at the counter to make an order.
Delilah pulled the chair in front of me and sat down. I took this time to ask her.
"Hey, are you and Ace officially boyfriend and girlfriend?" She thought about my question for a few seconds before replying.
"Yeah, I guess, I mean we never said it out loud, I don't think its necessary," She hesitated before continuing. "But, we are. Don't worry." I nodded and started on my homework.

"See you tomorrow AND CALL ME!" I said before Delilah closed the car door and I waved at her and Ace drove away. It was about eight pm and Delilahs house came before mine so he dropped her off before dropping me.
I focused on the other cars.
"I'm sorry about earlier today, I was kinda in a bad mood." Ace caught me off guard. I looked up and ahead and we locked eyes in the rear view mirror.
I shifted in my seat. "Don't worry about it." I smiled and played with my jacket sleeve.
"This is it right?" He said and I was confused as to what he was talking about. "Your street I mean." He cleared his question and I nodded.
"Thanks for the ride." I gave him a small smile and wave once I was out the car, he nodded in return.
I walked into the house and the lights were on and the house looked bright, which only happens on rare occasions since there's never more then one or two people at home once. Walking into the living room was a surprise. There was someone I didn't recognize chatting away with mom.
"Hi." I dropped my bag and walked over to mom.
"Oh Coral! This is Sophie, our neighbor." Mom stood up and introduced us.
"Oh hello! It's great to meet you!" Sophie shook my hand and smiled genuinely. "It's great to meet you too." I said and returned her smile. So, this was Ace's mother. I'd heard about her from mom but never met her in person.
She did really look like him though, she had his soft brown eyes. Good genes must run with the Zachary's.
"Coral, you know Ace right?" I looked over to mom and nodded.
"Oh that's great! Ace recently moved in with me, he's also new to Warren Township." Sophie exclaimed and lightly clapped her hands. Interesting.
"Yeah, I have him in a class." I added.
