Nice one, Nate.
Nate swore he saw Dianne took one step away from him after he said that.
“You—“
“I mean, it’s not as crazy as it sounds. Heck, it does! But, you need to listen…”
“G-go ahead,” Dianne frowned.
Nate sighed. “She was so attached to me. We have been friends for our whole life, and I guess she… she was one of those avid believers of happy endings. She thought I was the only one for her. She couldn’t take it. And she—she tried to kill herself.”
“She’s crazy,” Dianne said after being silent for a while. All this time, she never thought of killing herself, not even when she was so far from Devon, consumed by Lucio and his never-ending demands.
But then again—would she feel the same way if it was Nate who left her?
He was just... Nate.
Yet being with him too much made her unable to imagine what would happen if he left.
“I don’t know. I guess she just… wanted me too much. I never felt so bad in my entire life,” Nate looked through the window, wondering whether Ella had recovered right now. “She didn’t die, fortunately. She had terrible injuries, but at least they said she’ll be okay…”
He calmed down when he felt Dianne’s hand on his shoulder. She looked cute, tiptoing to reach his height with a face that looked as if she wanted nothing more than Nate to be comforted. He smiled. “At least everything gets better eventually. I got you now.”
I got you now, Dianne.
Nothing would be better than this.
Dianne stared at him for quite some time before giggling. “Then make sure you stay here a little bit longer, because I might kill myself if you don’t.”
“Are you… threatening me?” Nate turned around and took Dianne’s hand that was holding him. He gave her a mischiveous stare that she replied with a smile.
“I’m just warning you. Aunt Gifta said she trusted us, anyway,” Dianne’s voice was merely a whisper as Nate moved closer to her, sweeping the strands of hair that covered the side of her face to the back of her ear. He missed her. He missed how closely he could observe every detail that made her beautiful in his eyes—he missed feeling her weight in his arms like that night on the boat so far away from home.
“Will your girlfriend be mad about this?” Dianne held her breath as Nate wrapped his arm around her waist.
“It’s just us now,” Nate gave up and let the voice in his head took control of his nerves. He caught Dianne by the lips, and as he felt her kissing him back, he moved his hands and caressed her back. His skin was burning—everything in him was consumed by that kiss, and at that moment, he knew time had stopped to give them a glimpse of eternity, letting them kiss longer, deeper. With the taste of her lips on his, he finally knew they were one.
NATE AND DIANNE FINALLY KISSED AAAAA
