The Hospital Again

It was almost midnight. Nate rubbed his hands together for some warmth as he passed through the nearly empty corridor of that hospital. Everything looked white, and a vague smell of chloroform and medicine filled the air.

He hated this. Why was he here when he could be running around town looking for Dianne?

But he couldn’t say no. Ella’s mother never sounded happier when she called Nate at about ten o’clock, telling him that Ella was actually cured.

Ella was actually cured.

Nate wasn’t sure what it meant—did this mean she knew everything that had happened to them before the accident?

He sighed as he leaned on one side of the wall, contemplating on whether he should come inside the door with Ella’s room number.

-

“I’m so glad you’re okay now, Ella. How are you feeling?” Ella’s mother wrapped Ella’s hand in hers and smiled. “The stranger who found you on the street left. You should’ve met him—he’s really kind.”

“I really would love to, Mom. I remember him,” Ella replied weakly, remembering that naïve face that did not seem to hold any other feeling than a sense of—lostness. Who was he?

“Nate’s on his way here, and—“

“Dad,” Ella cut him, sounding much stronger than her body actually was. “I don’t think I need him here right now.”

“But, Honey—“

“I remember now, okay? And I honestly never thought I would do such a stupid thing. It’s—it’s not me,” she said coldly. “And I even literally crawl back to Nate after my coma, not knowing a thing about it! I—I’ve made myself so low.”

Nate heard that conversation from the outside, burying his head in his hands.

That was his call to leave.

-

Walking down the lonely street, Nate stopped by an old electric pole and pulled a piece of paper that was taped there.

It was dark, but his lips still managed to smile after staring at the photo of the girl on that flyer.

All this time, he actually felt special to have been the only one in that whole town who knew everything about the missing girl. Like he was actually the knight in shining armor who protected her from all she was afraid of.

He never thought he would be standing there, with his heart too sad for tears, seeking help from that flyer.

He folded it neatly and slipped it into his pocket after saving the contact number in his phone.

Lucio Franc.

You said you were looking for me. Might as well show myself to you now.

I actually need you.

Author's Note

Hello! It's been really, really long since I've written an author's note. To be honest, I haven't even touched wattpad through my laptop in a while. I know I owe my readers a ton of apologies for not being active although clearly, I'm on my winter break (there's no winter where I live, but let's just name it that way to sound cooler lol). But for the past few weeks, I've just really, really lost my interest in writing or wattpad :c

Which is why the updates for this story have been a little bit slow too. Don't even ask about my other stories, lol. I was just lucky to have finished writing this story long ago so that I can just copy and paste new chapters every once in a while without even reading it over. As I've said before, I'm experiencing terrible writer's block.

As a means of apology, I've just spent the past half an hour uploading 22 new parts for Tearing Paper, this being the first of those, up until the epilogue. I promise to keep the updates coming. Please, please, please do read and leave your thoughts, because reading your sweet feedbacks really keep me going. It's hard enough to share a story without getting to hear what my silent readers think about it, so yeah, I need some sort of motivation :p

Thank you if you have stayed this far, keep waiting for new updates!

Love,

Sienna Chartreuse <3
