Ella

A pair of black Zara ankle boots walked hurriedly through the crowded street. It was hard not to notice the figure walking in it—with natural brown curls that flowed down her back and sharp hazel eyes that knew no retreat. Ella did not look happy that day—she continued walking and stopped by the building in front of her.

-

“Really, Nate, really? You wanna spend the rest of your life working in this boring building, sitting on one desk and seeing the same people every single day? Tipping the same workers to buy you coffee—“

“It won’t be that bad! I’ll get promotions, and maybe direct my own division one day. And the next thing you know, you’ll be married to the owner of a famous publishing press,” Nate grinned enthusiastically.

“That’s—“ Ella shook her head impatiently.

“Come on, you know how much I love writing. I’ll really land this job!” Nate whined, almost like a five-year-old. He kissed Ella and hopped off the car, running excitedly towards the building that awaited him. “Wish me luck!” he waved and said inaudibly.

Nate and his pipe dreams.

“I’m sorry. Is Nate here?” Ella tried her best to keep a polite tone as she talked to a receptionist.

The receptionist led her into a room full of journalists facing their respective laptops. Ella looked around and clicked her tongue.

“Thank you so much. I’ll just talk to them for a while,” she said. Soon enough, one of the workers stood up with an empty cup of drink and walked out of that transparent room.

“E-excuse me. Nate works here, right? Nathan?” Ella asked while checking the label on the door. Yep, pretty sure that tabloid’s name was Nova.

“Nathan? Oh, he’s here. But he has asked permission to work off-desk for a few weeks to Boss, because he’s busy with another project,” said the worker who looked like he knew Nate well.

“Really? W-what project?” Ella continued to ask curiously. “I should’ve known. I’m his girlfriend.”

The worker raised his eyebrows in disbelief. “Well… I think he’s helping an unpublished author in editing some works—he’s not really open about that. I don’t know, but he looks kinda happy recently.”

The worker regretted what he said as soon as he saw fury burning in Ella’s eyes. “I mean—“

He was taken aback when Ella smiled sweetly at him. “Nate is really my boyfriend, and I really need you to help me. Who’s this author Nate is now working for?”
