“Sorry, I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do about it.”
“What?” Helplessness rose to his eyes as the woman standing by the receptionist table showed absolute disinterest in the dirty flyer he handed her. “I’m pretty sure the number stated here—and the address here—accurately belongs to this building. Franc Publishing Press. I read.”
Wrong move. Perhaps he said it too forcefully, making him look like a pathetic newcomer in that city, fighting for acknowledgement and existence. In Namiri Island, being able to read was a big deal.
Now he looked even more like rubbish in such a grand yet foreign land.
A misfit.
“I can see that. And yes, this is the right address. It’s kind of a disgrace, actually—let’s just say our company’s name has been written here prior any notice or agreement. We’re really sorry, now…”
Devon did not have to wait for the woman to shoo him away like a lost mutt. Clearly, the woman had no connections with Dianne.
But somebody in this gigantic building must do.

“What is it, Michelle?”
“Keep your hands off my table, Lucio, and get out before your father sees your dirty nose here again.”
“Come on, you need some eye refreshment from all this crazy work,” Lucio walked closer to her, infecting her with his thin smile. “What are you so pissed about? I saw someone coming over before—he doesn’t look…”
“Proper,” Michelle held her laughter and tried to sound professional. “It’s your fault. But hey, at least somebody finally takes interest in your stupid flyer.”
“The flyer!” Lucio lost his chill and stared at his older employee, almost with fury. “He knows something about the whereabouts of Dianne?”
“I’m not sure, he did not mention anything about knowing where she was,” Michelle rolled her eyes. “To me he just sounds as confused as you are—and as lost as that poor girl.”
“What?” Lucio frowned, tapping his hand on the table.
“Give it up, Lucio. It’s just too clear that she’s running away from you,” Michelle fixed her eyes on the computer and went back to her work, not knowing how much power her words had to crush Lucio.
Was she right?
Was Dianne missing because she ran away from him on purpose?
