"maddie." I heard a voice that made me want to die say.

"what?" I said groaning and closing my locker.

"is there a reason you hate me so much?" shawn asked obviously stifling a smile.

"have I not explained that to you already?" I asked.

"no, not really." he said his amusement disappearing while he opened his own locker.

"you act so entitled to everything." i said turning to him, "it's like you expect to be treated like a celebrity and everyone in schools expects to treat you like one. why? why is it that you can come in here and get exactly what you expect? you think you're so perfect and you're life is so great but you know what? one of these days that's going to change, and you'll know exactly why I hate you so much. and I swear to god you make one more joke about my period, I'll make YOU bleed." I said quickly and angrily.

he just looked at me. I surprisingly felt kinda bad for that but it almost made me hate him less telling him how I felt.

"alright." he said looking down at his feet.

"shawn." I said starting to feel guilty.

"you wanna make out now?" shawn smiled.

"It's crazy how I actually felt bad there for a second." I said.

before he could reply, the bell rang, and I sighed in relief.

"thank you Jesus." I mumbled walking away from him.

after first period, my favorite teacher, mr. walker, kept me after class.

"maddie, can I talk to you?" he said before I could leave.

"yeah sure." I said walking up to him, "what about?"

"the middle school dance. we need two high school students to help chaperone tonight because we're short on parents. think you could do it?"

"yeah of course. who's the other high school student?" I asked.

"I haven't decided yet, but whoever it is I'll make sure it's someone the middle schoolers will love." he assured me and I smiled.

"okay, see you monday." I said with a smile walking out.

ding a ling end of the day bell.

"mads!" I heard ariana yell to me.

"hey ari." I smiled as she approached me.

"so, tonight. brit and I were planning on having a girls night. you in?" she said.

"uhh," I said racking my brain, "aw shit, I'm chaperoning the middle school dance tonight. but that's over at 11 I think so I could come after." I said she looked at me confused.

"you're chaperoning the middle school dance?" she asked.

"yeah I know it's lame but mr walker asked me to and I don't-" i started but she interrupted me.

"but I heard mr walker asking shawn mendes to chaperone." she said with a bewildered look all over her face.

"oh well that wouldn't make sense because he asked me right after 1st period so unless mr walker asked him before-" I said, obviously very puzzled, until the reason he asked shawn came to me.

"mr walker said he wants two chaperones." I said in a panicking tone to ariana.

she laughed out loud, "you're going to the middle school dance with Shawn mendes?"

I watched her laugh hysterically, unable to stop until I couldn't handle it anymore.

"unless he said he has plans. I mean he's freaking shawn mendes why would he go to the middle school dance on a friday night that could be full of partying." I said.

"you should find out." she told me.

"you're right. will you find out for me?" I asked her.

"what? me?" she said as I turned her body around and pushed her in shawns direction.

"just ask him what he's doing tonight" I said and ran as soon as she reached him.

"hey, shawn right?" she said to him.

"yup." he answered cooly.

"I'm ariana. anyway, what're you doing tonight?" she asked awkwardly.

I watched them attentively while hiding behind the boy who was getting a drink from the water fountain until shawn and I made eye contact.

"shit." I mumbled ducking down and putting my hands on the boys back.

when he felt me, he quickly walked away and I was left alone in the hallway. I watched shawn as he started to laugh.

"you're asking for maddie, right?" he laughed.

"how'd you know?" Ariana asked and Shawn pointed to me while I stood alone in the middle of the hallway watching them.

Ariana rolled her eyes at me and motioned for me to come over. I walked over awkwardly and when I arrived ariana left us alone.

"I knew you were into me." he smiled.

"what?" I asked him.

"you're asking me to the middle school dance. "

"uh-" I said but he interrupted me.

"look, no need to be embarrassed. I'm in. I'll pick you up at 7. he said and walked away before I could reply.

I groaned and stood thinking about what had just happened. I quickly sped walk to mr. walkers classroom because I had to get there before he left.

"hey mr. walker. so I talked to the other chaperone."

"oh, yes, shawn seemed very excited that you were his partner in this."

"I really think you should reconsider your choice."

"what do you mean?" he asked with a look of concern on his face.

"I just don't see why you would ask shawn mendes to chaperone. he's one of the biggest partiers in school."

"oh I didn't ask him, he volunteered."

"volunteered?" I asked surprised.

"he's a good student and from what I see a pretty good guy. just give him a chance." mr walker said walking out of his classroom, "I'll see you monday maddie."

I sighed walking away.
