ALEX'S POV!!!!!!
Walking into our house is devastating. The normal trashy comfort feeling is gone. Everything in our house is bashed into pieces and scattered around. After walking in the woods for so long I was hoping I would be able to sleep atleast a few hours but it looks like I'm going to be cleaning.
I drop to my knees and search through the damage. Floorboards are turned and cracked so it is hard to maneuver around. I crawl into our small kitchen area and realize that all of our food supplies are taken. That's so fantastic. I have to go out and hunt for more food to keep Rumi from complaining as a child would.
I let out a long groan as I see that our bucket of water has spilled everywhere. I'm sitting in it too which means that I have to find some new clothes while these dry out so I don't get hypothermia in these cold nights.
I go back into the area where we sleep and realize that Rumi isn't here with me.
"Rumi!" I call out but she doesn't answer. "RUMI!" I shout again and she still doesn't answer me. "Dang it!" I say to myself as I go outside getting a sense of de ja vu that twists my stomach in knots.
I search the outside perimeter of the house and find her behind the house, picking the flowers. "Hey, Alexi-Alex I found some edible plants that we can eat until you can go hunting!" She says plucking another plant and chewing it in her mouth.
"Gross, Rumi! How do you know those are edible?" I ask
Her breathing be comes ragged and comes out in short bursts "I've eaten ten of them and nothing has happened yet." She says and tears come out of her eyes yet again "They taste so nasty. I'm so hungry though and whom ever ransacked our house took all of the fabulous food you have caught and picked." she says desperately
"Oh Rumi.." I trail off taking her hand to pull her out of the dusty dirt.
"I am sorry." She says dropping the chewed flower onto the ground and out of her mouth.
"Again, nasty." I say and pull her onto the steps of our house, being sure to stay away from the caving third one. "We can stay here for the night." I say casually.
Tomorrow is going to be stressful, especially since I have to go find us a new house in a new accord..
When I wake up bright sun is shining into my eyes. I feel a shiver run down my spine and I grab my arms for warmth. I realize I no longer have any sleeves on my button up flannel, and I get mad.
A few boys are running around using my sleeves as whips against each other. Angrily I get up and march over to them. I hold out my hand and when they don't hand over the material I raise my hand up high. Swiftly my hand comes down and smacks one of the boy's cheek. I turn to the other and smack him too, hoping to get the lesson across.
I bend down and yank my clothes out of their small nine year old hands and walk away, going back to Rumi. I pull her out of sleep and tell her I'm going to get food and then we have to start looking for a place to stay.
I go over to the market tent and grab four apples, a squirrel kabob, and two tomatoes. For that I toss the vendor one sleeve. I go to a different cart that is setting out clothes and pull out a freshly hand sewn short sleeved shirt and a small lightweight jacket to go with it. For that I toss the vendor one of our tomatoes. I go over to another cart that is selling rag-packs which are these rags that are sewn to fit onto your shoulders so that you can carry around stuff. I grab a larger one and throw the vendor my second sleeve.
I shove all of the merchandise into my Rag-Sack and go back to our ransacked house. I throw the sack to Rumi and then go behind the house to change my shirt. I rip off the ragged plaid crap and put on the new, soft, fresh shirt. I shrug on the lightweight jacket and then turn around. Little did I know there was a boy about my age watching me change.
