Jacob Sinclair watched as his young daughter, Vale was trying to maneuver her way through the trees. Jacob and his daughter lived in a small cottage in a clearing in the woods. When Jacob discovered that his daughter was blind and there was nothing medicine could do about it, he was heartbroken. But he put on a smile for Vale every day because the blindness never seemed to bother her. He had wanted her to grow up in the woods, where she wouldn't be so limited by sight. He looked down at his little 9 year old and smiled, even though he knew she couldn't see it. Since Vale was very little all she had wanted to do was explore. Her father would take her out into the woods and tell her to find her way back to their house. He said that being blind doesn't mean that I'm useless, it means that I have 4 other super strong senses, and that I should use them to the best of my ability. By now I had practically memorized every inch of the woods, and could find my way back to the house very easily. I walked on the straight path, occasionally brushing my hands against the tree trunks so I didn't stray from the path. I could hear my father's footsteps crunching behind me. I finally reached the clearing where our house was at and stopped. I heard my dad chuckle and I smiled. "How fast was I that time, daddy?" I knew that he was looking at his cracked watch, trying to make out the time. He had let me run my fingers over it once before so I knew it was cracked. When I had asked him why he didn't get a new watch. He had answered that someone special had given it to him. "About 14 minutes, Vale." I cheered and jumped up and down excitedly. "That's a whole 8 minutes faster than last time!" I ran to the house but didn't pay attention and tripped over a root and fell flat on my face. "Ow." I said as Jacob ran over and helped me to my feet. He laughed lightly and I scowled in his direction. "Oh come on Vale, that was a little funny." I broke into a grin. "A little, just a little itty bitty tiny bit." I said walking off towards our house. Jacob followed and opened the door for me, he told me that it was time to go to bed. We had been out in the woods all day and I was dead tired so I happily obliged. I made my way upstairs and towards my small room, I opened the door and went over to my dresser and slipped on my pajamas. I went to my bed and crawled under the covers. Jacob came in and kissed me on the forehead. I kissed my hand and felt around until Jacob grabbed my hand and put it on his face. "Oops." I giggled. "Goodnight Vale." He said to me as he stood up. "Goodnight daddy." I said before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
