Chapter One: Running Away With The Chosen One

Colette's Point Of View

13 Years Later - 1st August 1993

I stared out of my window over Privet drive. Earlier that morning, not only did I wake up to a messiest head of hair I've ever had to experience the dred of dragging a hairbrush through, a well as to a brown owl tapping it's beak on my bedroom window repeatedly and slowly more forcefully. Finally, I got to open the letter I had been waiting for for 5 years now,

My Hogwarts letter.

It eventually got here! I can actually go to Hogwarts. Mrs Figg, my guardian and best friend since forever, has told me previously all about the magical school from books she'd been given by Albus Dumbledore. I had also managed to pick up extra and significantly more interesting information from her and Dumbledore's conversations by hiding behind the living room door and creeping back to my room when she shows him out. Sneaky? Maybe. But I was utterly sure that Hogwarts was going to be the best experience of my entire life. There was a quiet knock on my door and I swivelled around on my chair to face my bedroom door. Mrs Figg had opened it and walked in with my yellow and white mug, most likely full of tea,

"You okay Lottie?" She asked, placing the mug next to the lamp on the bedside desk,

"Yes, brilliant! Just excited. I really can't wait to get to Hogwarts!" Mrs Figg smiled at me. She turned around and was about to head out of the room when an idea hit me, "Hey, Mrs Figg?" She turned around again and smiled at me,

"Yes, dear?"

"Do you think I could have Harry over tomorrow? Do you think he'd tell me more about Hogwarts?" I asked hopefully. Mrs Figg looked in thought for a couple of seconds before nodding her head very slowly,

"Don't count on it though. His Aunt Marge is going to be over, so I'm guessing he might not be allowed out this weekend. Just go over and ... I don't know. You got any ideas?" She said and looked to have a wondering expression about her face. You see, this is what I love about Mrs Figg. She'd actually lie for you. She's just so cool,

"I could say you need some shopping doing." I suggested,

"Hmm ... I suppose that could work. You wouldn't mind going shopping would you? If I made you a list tonight; I don't think there'll be much."

"No, of course not! That'll be fine. But like, what do you think I should I ask him? I don't want to go flying into it and then scare him."

"Take him to the park afterwards. Maybe you could say ... Hmm ... Dumbledore sent you to him with your questions? Something like that. But you can not let him know about me being a squib or all I know about the Wizarding World. Not yet anyway."

"You're going to tell him?" I asked getting quite excited, quite quickly.

"Not yet anyway." Mrs Figg repeated. I felt myself grin. I had known Harry for as long as I could remember and even if I was two years older than him, we had always been practically best friends. But when I knew all about the wizarding world and about wizards, witches, squibs and all about him and his past, Harry knew stuff all. I couldn't wait until I could actually have a conversation about everything within the magical world with him. I had known about Hogwarts way, way before Harry did, naturally. I had know about that castle for as long as I could remember. I knew all the in and outs of Harry's fame too, and his survival from the clash at Godric's Hollow with Voldemort. Even when he wasn't aware, I knew it all. But, all the same, Harry was and still is just a normal boy to me, an innocent and slightly geeky soul that bad things have happened to. I thought I had a unusual life, but at least mine hadn't been the hard work Harry's had. Lottie's no sob story. But Hogwarts was my ticket to a semi-normal life. It would be my escape, a second chance at a real life,
