Chapter Thirty One: Secrets, Lies And A Mad Dash For Freedom

Colette's Point Of View

I'm going to be completely honest with you right now, and even if there was no audience watching us in any shape or form, I still felt a bit of an idiot as we walked down the stairs from the attic type room in the Shrieking Shack to the tunnel that would lead us back to Hogwarts. The line-up consisted of Lupin and Ron being the leaders, each having a wrist chained to Peter Pettigrew's with me toddling an metre or so behind Lupin, Snape literally floating behind us four with Sirius' wand pointing towards him whilst the wand owner and Alex were laughing as they had been the whole time. Hermione and Harry were right at the back and held identical serious looks and surprising, Hermione's face was hinting a small smile every now and again whereas Harry was continuing his blank but thoughtful look as before. I shrugged and tottered forward a little to walk beside Lupin, "You seem pretty happy." He smiled,

"I think you would be if you were in my shoes." I said, smirking and rolling my eyes,

"I was only confirming," He said as we dodged a couple of cobwebs and a plank of wood, "I suppose you're going to want to ask a few questions?"

"Define few." I said and folded my arms as we walked. Lupin laughed,

"I suppose I should get to it."

"You suppose?" I added sarcastically,

"Why don't you ask me a couple of questions instead?" Lupin suggested and we walked down the stairs into the tunnel,

"You could start by telling me why someone decided that no-one could tell me about you and why I've lived with Mrs Figg until I'm fifteen. Almost sixteen if I may just highlight." I grinned and Lupin chuckled lightly,

"It's long and complicated to why you wasn't told Colette," Lupin started, "But why you were with Mrs Figg, I can answer. You see, your mother and I didn't continue for much longer after you were born. I mean, they were some of the best four months of my life but it wasn't right. So your mother moved on and took you with her." Lupin shrugged and I pulled a confused face at him,

"That answer is about as much use as Alex." I said and heard a gasp from behind me,

"I'll have you know --"

"ANYWAAAYY," Lupin began loudly and I laughed as I heard Alex huffed and Lupin grinned at me, "You only let me get a third of the story out! Lily then raised you on her own for a few months before her and James met up again."

"My dad?" Harry shouted from the back and Lupin nodded to him before looking back to me,

"Him and her got along like before but there was one problem. You see, well you know how James and I were best friends and everything, Lily never wanted to tell him in case he fell out for me. So she lied for me. She covered up our relationship and told him you were Snape's daughter."

"Are you joking?" I asked and Lupin shook his head as I sighed in disbelief, "Why don't you just shoot me in the face?"

"What's wrong with Snape?" Lupin asked but you could see how it annoyed him to say it,

"Oh I dunno, let me find my list." Alex shouted sarcastically as we all laughed,

"You don't change do you Alex?" Lupin smiled as Alex grinned and shook her head,
