Wednesday morning I woke up just like always and went through my normal routine. I go downstairs and find Jeremy there once again but this time he's not alone. He's talking with my brother and foster siblings, when I walk in the conversation comes to an abrupt halt. I also stop when the conversation ends. I look at them and then my phone vibrates. I glance down and see that it's a message from Ryan saying that the bus is headed my way. I head to the door and freeze feeling someone's eyes on me. I turn back and see that it's Jeremy. I look down at the floor, back up at him, and then go outside and race to the bus stop.

After getting to school I just sit at our table and stare off into space, what happened yesterday was a mistake. I let him get too close in the two days I've known him. I promised myself that I wouldn't let that happen again. Old memories flashed through my mind and he was just there. I know that doesn't make any difference, but I still feel closer to him than I have with anyone else. I need to stay away from him or he needs to stay away from me.

I finally made my decision and the bell rings. I wait for Andrea to grab her bag so we can go to our lockers. We grab our stuff and apparently Andrea noticed how quiet I've been because she asks me what's wrong. I shake my head and reply, "It's nothing." She stares me down for a few moments and then just drops it. We go our separate ways and I enter my classroom. I notice Jeremy already in his seat and keep going to my desk, as I sit down I grab my book out of my hoodie and start reading. Jeremy's staring at me and I know because I feel his eyes. on me. I lose my concentration because of it and have to keep reading the same paragraph over and over.

"I know you're trying to avoid me," he says after I read the paragraph for the fourth time.

"What would give you that idea?"

"Well this morning you walked out the door and if you weren't and I wasn't bothering you, you would already be on the next page."

"Okay, you caught me. Are we done here?"

"No we are most certainly not, we are goin-" The rest of his sentence is once again cut off by Mr. Addams. "Will you two please pay attention? Josephine I know you already have this concept down but there are still others who don't."

"Sorry sir, it won't happen again."

"See that it doesn't."

As soon I he turns back to the Smart-board, I glare over at Jeremy and he sends me a look saying that our conversation isn't over yet.

I finish our worksheet that Mr. Addams gave us just as the bell rings. Hurriedly I pack my stuff and nearly run out of class. I kept walking when I hear Andrea call my name so Jeremy wouldn't be able to catch up.

When I get to our lockers I stop and wait for her. "What's going on with you today? I dropped it this morning but you're telling me whether you like it or not so spill."

I turn around and look at her, and she stops her rant. "If he hurt you I swear to the God I don't believe in that I will-"

"Stop. He didn't do anything. It's not his fault, I'm the one that let him get too close." I say not really knowing why I had to defend him.

"Well, then what did happen? You've been acting really distant lately and it got a little better when he came. So what did he change just by showing up?"

"I'll tell you what happened but I need time. I haven't even said anything to Juliana. You just need to trust me when I say I'm working through it...mostly." I say in a quiet voice.

After school was over I head to Dr. Jones' room. She's not a doctor in the normal sense but she has her doctorate degree in Literature. If you say Mrs. Jones her normal response is," I've worked for my title and I'm going to use it." and she says it in a scary voice so we just go with it. "Oh good, Josephine, you're here."
