I climb on my tractor and start driving to my Uncle Carl's house. (He's my dad's oldest brother). It's just two roads away so it doesn't take me that long to get there. I park the tractor in the driveway and get down. I sit on the little step in front of the door. After a while I go to the sheep barn because it's cold out in the open. I open the door and go inside and I sit on the chair that's placed just inside the door.

I'm the Alpha's mate? How? I don't know anything about packs, let alone Alpha duties or if I even help with those because there might be Luna duties! Is it even possible for a Luna to be human? I mean sure it happens a lot in the books, but the books were already wrong about one thing. How in the world am I going to pull this off?

Suddenly I hear the door open again and I jump in my seat. "I thought you'd be here," I hear my Uncle say to me. "I know you'll make an excellent Luna."

"How do you know about that?"

"Well I do live in this town and I know who Jeremy is. After he started staying with the Calm Eclipse pack the current Alpha of his pack, his father, tried to find out who the new Luna's family is and what she's like. And he eventually came to me, so yes I know that you're the next Luna."

"What'd you say?"

"Well I told him how this town is your second home, that you treat people with respect. I also told him that you don't stand up for yourself but you'll stand up for the people you care about. He was very pleased, but he still has his doubts on whether or not you'll be strong enough."

"I don't even know if I want to be the Luna! I don't know anything about this. I don't even know Jeremy that well and now we're supposed to be soul mates! How the hell does that work?"

"Josephine stop worrying about it. The Moon Goddess knows what she's doing, if you couldn't handle it you wouldn't be his mate. I know that this must be hard for you to understand, but I think you'll make an excellent Luna. Just think this through a little more then go back to the house, I can pretty much tell that he's worried because of how fast you ran off."

"Thanks Uncle Carl."

"Just don't stay out here too long."

I stay in the sheep barn for so long that I don't even what time it is when I emerge. All I know is that it's dark. I'm surprised no one came to get me so I could go to Grandma's for Thanksgiving. Oh well, I guess I'll call Julianna and have her come get me. I'm reaching into my back pocket as I hear a deep low growl. I try to summon the bravado that I don't have and turn around to face the wolf. "What do you want," I ask and it just growls in response.

"Well alright then, if you want me come get me." As soon as the wolf hears that it starts running. When it's about three feet in front me it leaps. I quickly turn around and grab the shovel, that's conveniently resting on the side of the barn, and raise it in front of my face so it'll hit the shovel and not me. It twists in mid air and moves out of in front of me. It lands and then I hit it with the shovel before it can do anything else.
"Next time, think it through before you mess with me or my pack," I say then drop the shovel. I realize a couple seconds later that the shovel couldn't actually hurt it so I start sprinting back to the house.

I look back behind me to see where it is and I collide with a broad shouldered body with a hard stomach. I don't want to look because  it could be that wolf in human form so I slowly start to back up. As I attempt to move away hands grasp my arms and that's when I decide to look and I see that it's only Jeremy. "Why are you running," he asked me.

"A wolf was attacking me then I hit him with a shovel. He went down but I realized later that the shovel couldn't hurt it so then I ran." I look back to where the wolf was but now it's gone, I wonder where it went.
