Chapter 7

*Lucy POV*

A week had passed since Bianca's first day in the studio and now after many questions from her students, Ms. Olivia finally promised to announce the casting after today's class.

Never before was I so nervous. Of course yes I knew no matter what I would be able to dance in the nutcracker but then I had to add the weight of my mother being a professional and having been Clara once before she became a professional.

There was an unsaid worry in my mind about not getting the part and then having people judge me based on my mother. Although I technically had one more year left before I have to audition for companies, the idea of getting the Clara part out of the way seemed very pleasing to me.

I only hoped Ms. Olivia did the same.

**Rosie POV**

4:15 pm

"I still think finger fairy is ten times better at least when you actually use your middle finger. It brings such a culture shock to ballet." Elle observed causally as she stretched on the floor near my barre where I had my leg up to stretch.

I was only half paying attention to Elle. I had my phone out and was in the middle of texting Daniel who was at the moment in the emergency room after stupidly putting a nail through his foot earlier today while trying to clean up his room after Jade and Lucy.

Why there were nails all over his room? I had no idea. Perfect question to ask the two of them after rehearsal tonight.

Call your father. He will be able to get off work. My hands are tied right now. I can't leave. I'm sorry. But Welcome Home!

"Pay attention to me!!!" Elle exclaimed, as she hit me across my foot with the end of her class pointe shoes.

"I just found out my son stepped on a nail and is now in the emergency room. I am not going to pay you any attention right now dude." Elle whined.

"But whhhhy?" She asked.

I made no comment.

*New Email*

I turned to my email and saw it was from Olive. Clicking on it, the email began as such:

Dear Parents,

I thought it best to send you the entire cast list before your children hear it from me so as to prepare you for the waterworks once people head home. The Nutcracker Cast this year is the following...

For a few seconds, the dance studio was quiet, and then I screamed.

"OH MY GOD ELLE LOOK! LOOK! LOOK!" Elle was up in a flash by my side and then began screaming as well and hugging me.

"OUR DAUGHTER IS CLARA! OUR DAUGHTER IS CLARA!" We both yelled, not giving a shit about the many irritated dancers glaring at us, including Rob, who was questioning who exactly got Clara when both Elle and I screamed about our daughter getting the part.

Stupid Rob does not understand how family works around here.

*Jade POV*

When class was over I could tell by all the freaks around me that only one thing was on everyone's mind and no it was not thinking about the many shades of black like mine was the moment before.

But now I was slapped to attention, this time literally by Alice who was jumping up and down like a possessed kangaroo who thought it was smart to hit me when excited.

Fuck no.

"I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm soo excited!!" Alice said aloud again and again. I question that girl's mental well-being sometimes.

I turned to the other side and saw Lucy looking pale and on edge. She caught my stare and made a slitting neck motion making me giggle internally. On the outside I was sure I still had my resting bitch face on.

Finally, after what I thought was too much talking, Ms. Olivia came in with a piece of paper with the dreaded news on it.

I wish Lucy to have Clara on there and for Alice to get something jumpy like.. oh I don't know, a rat? Either way, at the end of the day I wanted this all over with.

"Okay everyone so for Nutcracker this year I have most of you separated into your certain parts. Boys you will all have certain parts but girls you will all have a certain dance as well as joining the ensemble when convenient. You all know how I love having you dance with the younger classes.

I hissed quietly and I was pleased to see Lucy perk up a bit as if she heard me.

"So here are the following for you all. Spanish will be danced by Alice so Alice please start working on your fan skills. I need that down clean." Alice was chipper at the news and nodded, now definitely jumping up and down.

Spanish works for her alright. The flirty girl dances to a flirty song.

"Arabian will be Allison and Andrew." Allison looked like she would be sick while Andrew only smirked from the sidelines. I breathed a sigh of relief at hearing no Jade after Arabian. My mother did it once. I didn't need to do it to match. My brothers would never shut up about it if I did.

"The Mirlitons will be Maddie, Rebecca and David." Ms. Olivia said, surprising all of us. Normally it was three girls for this part but I guess Ms. Olivia wanted to do something different. I saw out of the corner of my eye David looking pleased while both Rebecca and Maddie laughed and hugged one another obviously overly excited.

"Gingerbread mother will be played by one of the ballet 6 students. Ava if any of you remember her." Ms. Olivia joked. I knew Ava. Scar and Clary called her a hippo.

Chinese will also be ballet 6 girls for the leads. There will be two leads and they will be played by the twins, Scarlet and Clary. I know you all know those two. Who would forget them?" Ms. Olivia joked again. This made me chuckle internally.

"Drew you will be Fitz and Todd you will be the mouse king." Ms. Olivia went on. This made everyone hold their breath as they looked at a horrified Drew.

Todd on the other hand was zoning out the entire time and only when he heard his name did he look up. After hearing his part he managed a smirk and then disappeared again in his mind.

Did he always have green eyes? I questioned as I watched him. Suddenly those green eyes were on me and quickly, I turned my head while thinking the following:

Death death death death death death cat!

"Bianca, since you are new to the studio I will not push so much on you but I do want to see you do Sugar Plum so that is what I have placed you under." I saw Lucy looking at me confused which made me confused for wondering why she was confused.

"Lucy you will be both Dew Drop and Snow Queen since I have seen you practice Snow Queen once before and loved it and Dew Drop is right up your ally. Andrew will partner with you during Snow Queen." Lucy's eyes widened which I thought meant she was surprised at what she got but then she turned to me and like an ice cube falling in my stomach I finally got it.

Oh Shit, Ms. Olivia has not given me a part yet. And there was only one thing left.

"So that leaves this year's Clara going to Jade!" Ms. Olivia said happily. The whole room went up in applause while I stood there, in the back looking horrified.

**Rob POV**

"Wait so Jade got the part?" I asked, finally reading through the email.

"Yes! And she will have to wear pink!" Rosie said excitedly. Elle who had been dancing alongside Rosie froze and turned to Rosie with wide eyes.

"Wait what?" A small smile came up on my face while Elle's smile crumbled away as Rosie explained the obvious.

Jade was going to wear pink for the first time in her life on stage as Clara.

Elle looked at me and then back at Rosie before saying:

"Oh Fuck no."
