"Hey, babe," the lonely man started, speaking to his girlfriend. "I miss you. I miss you so much. It's been a while since you left... and I just wanted you to know that I'm sorry. I'm sorry I shouted at you. I'm sorry I made you think that you had to leave. I'm sorry you felt like this was all your fault. I was too self involved... But it won't happen again. I can't lose anyone else. God, it's been so long. I need you back! I can't do this on my own!" By this point, the man had started to cry. He was half expecting her to respond, to break the brief silence between them. Of course, the void of sound that he had expected was all he got in response. "I'd give anything to see that beautiful face and hear that sweet voice of yours... I'd die for it.
This- this is so hard for me, saying goodbye. Because I guess that's what this is... It's a goodbye!" He wailed, as the rain started to pour and he fell to his knees. "This is my fault!"
He couldn't carry on talking to her like this, with silence as his only response, so he got up. "Goodbye, Y/N. You're my angel... And I'm sorry for driving you away. I should've stopped you. Then that truck never would've..."
He trailed off, leaving his sentence hanging in the damp air.
He gently lay the roses down with the rest of the flowers, stroked the new gravestone and strode away from the cemetery.
