The safety of the public bathroom stall began to warp with her unease. The walls felt like they were closing in and her breathing only quickened it's pace. Her head felt light and she felt like she was drowning, the sensation of water building up in her lungs feeling so real, but any water was absent.
The banging on the stall door echoed through her mind like it was empty, though it was swimming with negative thoughts.
"Y/N?"
Her boyfriends voice should have calmed the storm in her head but the thundering self doubt only became more violent.
"Come out!"
Her legs felt like jelly. As much as she wanted to escape the stall that looked like it was collapsing, she couldn't.
"Don't make me break the door down!"
That should've been read as a caring gesture from her wonderful boyfriend, but her head made it an exasperated statement. Breaking down that door to save her would be too much effort for him and she wasn't worth it.
The rise and fall of her chest grew more rapid, her stomach turning like waves of an uneasy sea. Her fragile body was shaking like the final leaf on an Autumn tree as her heart pumped under oxygenated blood around her trembling form.
CRASH!
The crack of a door slammed off its hinges terrified her, making all her symptoms worsen.
"Which stall are you in baby?" He whispered, trying to calm her down. She couldn't speak so just slid her foot under the door.
"I'm just gonna sit and talk to you for a second, okay?"
She nodded before realising he couldn't see her. Stupid!
"Babe?"
She managed a strangled 'yes' before seeing Syn's body slide down the door, landing on the other side with a thud.
"Another panic attack, yeah?" He sighed.
"Y-yeah..."
"Those girls in top shop... was it them?"
He was starting to get angry now, his words sounding like a growl more than anything else.
"What else would it be?!" She cried, not particularly wanting to talk about it anymore.
"You're skinnier than all of them, Y/N! And that isn't a fucking good thing!"
"Is now the time, Syn? Really?" She groaned. Her eating disorder was a touchy subject at the best of times.
"You need to eat, babe please!"
The thought of anything making her fatter than she thought she was made her feel ill. Her breathing started to quicken again before she started retching, with nothing to throw up.
"Okay baby, in... and out... in... out..." he repeated the same thing until he could hear her calm down.
"Sorry... I'm so sorry baby. I'm a mess and you have to deal with it..." she muttered.
"You are perfect, even with all your imperfections, okay? I love you and you can't forget that. Those girls out there? They think they're all that, and they're not ugly, sure. But they're not you. And they're hideous on the inside. You are beautiful through and through," he sighed, his voice shaky.
"Syn, are you okay?"
"I'm just worried about you is all," he smiled. "Can you open the door now? Don't rush yourself if you don't want to."
She wobbled as she stood, slowly turning the lock on her stall door, unsteadily letting the door crack open so she could see his face.
Before she could think, she was enveloped into a warm hug.
"Please don't ever run off like that again! I never know where you've gone... that scares me babe. What if you don't come back...?"
"Don't. Syn, I will always come back. I just need my space when I get like that. You understand right baby?" She smiled gently.
"Right. Should we go grab a bite to eat?"
She hesitated for a moment.
"Babe? Should we go eat?" He pushed.
"Sure, why not?"
