It was 2027, on your birthday. Today was the day that you tied the knot with Craig. It was late morning and you could smell bacon cooking.
That man knew you so well.
Not only could you smell bacon, but you could hear music. It was Let Me Be. The song for your first dance. Just hearing it made you smile.
That's when you decided to go to the wardrobe. You moved all of the mundane everyday clothing out of the way of the large white box laying on the floor. Your wedding dress, shoes and veil.
It wasn't a conventional wedding dress, but neither you nor Craig did 'conventional'.
The dress was so perfect, with its black corset, adorned with red lace and the classic Disney princess style skirt. It was also black with red lace. Around the middle, between the corset and the skirt, was a red and black bow.
The veil was just plain black, the way you'd wanted it to be.
Being as clumsy as you were, you had decided that it would be best for you to wear flat shoes. Your family though the idea abhorrent, but you loved your blood red converses with black ribbon laces. It was all so perfect.
It couldn't hurt to try it on, could it?
You pulled the rather heavy box out from the wardrobe, knocking things over as you went. You didn't really care though. You just wanted to wear it.
You smiled as you pulled the lid off of the box, looking at the beauty it concealed.
You peeled off your pyjamas and slipped on the converses.
Fighting your way through layers of lace and silk, you finally got the dress on, making your way out of the almost inescapable skirt. You felt beautiful, which was something that never happened.
You tied the bow up, proud of your work, but then found that you couldn't fasten the corset.
Suddenly, the music was switched off and you heard footsteps creak up the stairs.
"Fuck..." you muttered to yourself.
"Babe, are you okay? I heard some banging..." he asked, sounding ever so concerned about you.
"Uh- y-yeah I'm fine!" You stuttered, trying to get him to leave.
But the door groaned on its hinges as it was pushed open.
You heard a soft chuckle come from the gorgeous man behind you. "You're not meant to see me in it..." you sighed in defeat.
"Babe it doesn't matter. Let me do it up for you," he smiled. You nodded and smiled as you felt his calloused fingers lace the ribbon up nice and tight to your torso.
"And the veil?" He asked. Again, you nodded, no longer embarrassed.
He placed the veil and tiara on your messy bed-hair and spun you around.
"So beautiful..." he sighed in content.
"Shush!" You giggled.
"No, you need to know that you look so beautiful in it!" He smiled. "Every time you put it on."
He wrapped his arms around your waist and started to sway gently with you, before singing the first lines of the song for your first dance and dancing the way you did that night, 10 years ago.
Like I said, it was 2027, the day you walked down the aisle, said your vows and married the man you loved, ten years ago.
And every year on your anniversary, you dressed up in your wedding clothes. And every year, Craig laced up your corset after making bacon pancakes and before dancing your first dance together.
