Ringleader's P.O.V.
I was out on a run with Bobo and her boyfriend. We went to rite aid to see if there was any medicine. I mean you can never have enough medicine. Right? Anyways when we got there we looked through the broken glass doors. I heard a deep growl. I turned my head to see a raised about to bite Brandon. "Look out!" I screamed while pushing him out of the way, resulting in me getting bit instead of him. I screamed in pain. Bobo's head snapped towards me and she screamed. She hit the raised that had latched into my arm. It let go falling limp onto the ground. I hissed in pain from the newly opened wound. It hurt like hell. I fell to my knees in agony as both Brandon and Bobo watched in horror. Through clenched teeth I managed to speak. "Don't just stand there do something!" They hesitated. "Brandon look for medical supplies. Bobo tie a piece of cloth around my arm as tight as you can!" They acted quickly. Bobo pulled out a rag from her pack and tied it around my arm right a nice the wound. Brandon ran ini the store and got all the supplies we needed.
Bobo helped me to the base while Brandon protected us, unfortunately. Halfway back Brandon got bit on his neck. Bobo killed the raised. Knowing Brandon wouldn't make it she held a gun to his head. She must have thought that she pulled the trigger but she just stood there with her eyes closed. Tears were streaming down her face. After she 'thought' she pulled the trigger she helped me home. Once there the whole base was in an uproar. "How the hell did this happen?!?!" Emma screamed when she saw my condition. I laughed dryly and spoke. "Well, I guess you could say I'm deathly gorgeous."
                              Batter's P.O.V.
Larry face palmed and Emma just stared. I had a poker face. "Wow, that was terrible." Cathy said. "Hey, I try to be bad!" Gaby laughed. She seems so cheery for not having long to live. I really wonder what is going on in her head. Oh, wait... I set Gaby down on the couch while I got the medical supplies. I cleaned the wound and bandaged it. It just felt like the right thing to do. I wouldn't want her to die with an infected wound. Wait... Anyways. The rest of the day everyone was silent, except for Gaby making bad puns all the damn time. She was acting like nothing was wrong and for some reason that pissed me off. I couldn't take it anymore and I just exploded. "Just shut up! I can't take this anymore! So quit acting like everything is fine! Because it's not! Your bit and Brandon's dead! So just shut up!" I covered my mouth afterwards. "I'm sorry! I d-didn't mean it!" I frantically apologized. Gaby just laughed. "Water under the bridge Bobo, water under the bridge. Besides it's not that bad. If I die maybe I'll see my family again. " she spoke more to herself than us. Wait, what did she mean if she died. Does that mean she saw her family dead? I didn't ask, not wanting to bring back bad memories. We didn't go on anymore runs that day.
Gaby refused to sleep saying that if she did we would know that she had died. I took first watch. I sat close to Gaby, wanting to spend time with we before she died. "Y'know, it doesn't hurt as much as before. In fact, it feels like the pain is fading away. Almost like, my body is fighting it off." Gaby spoke out of nowhere. I was surprised to here that. I thought it was supposed to hurt the entire time some one is turning. Confused, I just nod. "Jut so you know, my entire family is dead." My eyes widened when she said that. "I found out last week. I was on a run with Larry. We went to dollar general. While Larry was clearing out the store, I saw them. Down the street a little ways. All dead. Recently died too. Raised were still feasting in them. "Gaby spoke with little to no emotion. "Of course I was sad, but. That was when I realized we can't be weak, not even for a second. Because then this happens." She gestured to her arm. "Hey Bobo." I hummed a yes. "I want these to be my famous last words. 'When life gives you potatoes, make potato salad' okay?" I snorted trying to hold back my laughter. I nodded anyways. She laughed with me. I decided to let my shift last a while longer than usual since I wanted to be with Gaby for as long as I can. "Boy, I'm getting sleepy. But I refuse to let laziness wash over me. I've done plenty of all nighters in my life. This shouldn't be any different. " she spoke softly. I bit my lip. "Hold on a sec." I told Gaby as I got up to grab something.
I came back with two water bottles and a bag of beef jerky. Gaby smiled and leaned back into the couch. I handed her a water bottle to which she happily gulped down. I sat back down next to her and opened up the jerky pack. We shared a meal. "This kind of reminds me of that time in seventh grade when we went on that field trip to six flags. We shared jerky like this back then too." We were acting all nostalgic. I laughed dryly. "Those were such good times. " I spoke almost inaudibly. Those are nothing more than memories of when things weren't as bad. The only thing we would ever worry about is doing our homework and studying for tests. As the saying goes. You don't realize how much you love it until it's gone forever. Gaby coughed weakly. "Sorry, my throat is just so scratchy." Gaby apologized. I nodded. She leaned back into the couch and sighed. "My mom always made the best cheesecake in the world. " Gaby randomly blurted out. I laughed at how random it was. "Not only cheesecake but everything she cooked was amazing. Sometimes when I was in a bad mood I would just pretend not to like her cooking when in reality I would be silently wishing for seconds. " I laughed a little harder. Her mom seems awesome. "Then there were my older sisters. My oldest one was so confusing. The other one was like my best family friend, she was always there for me. " Gaby continued to talk about her family. She doesn't say anything about her dad though.
I begin to worry as her eyes begin to droop. I look over to see Gaby as pale as a ghost. I gasp. Her eyes open up a bit. "Don't worry, I'm not going under yet." Gaby spoke quietly. I sighed but I wasn't entirely sure. Then suddenly I heard the sound of cloth rustlings. It was Emma. She must have just woke up. "Alright Bobo, I think your shift has dragged on long enough. I'll take the next shift with Gabbakins. "She stretched while she spoke. I nodded reluctantly. I walked over to where Brandon used to sleep and laid down where he always rested. I pretended to cuddle up to his chest hoping that Gaby would survive the night.
                              To be continued...
