We were running low on supplies again so we were going back to out usual run schedule. Today I was to take the morning run with Larry. Then Cathy and Bobo would take the evening run. As me and Larry were heading towards the store, I noticed the oddly small amount of raised there were in the area. I brushed it off as a blessing and we continued I walk in silence. Th glass door was completely shattered and there were a few raised inside. Larry had requested me to stay outside while he scavenged. It's was a good idea to be on the look out, so I agreed to wait outside the store. Big mistake.
I heard a growl. I quickly snapped my head towards the direction of the noise and was horrified by the scene that was displayed in front of me. A little ways down the street I saw my family. Half of them dead. My mother was laying on the hard asphalt ground with no emotion on her face. Her eyes were slightly opened and blood shot. Some blood trickled down her chin from her mouth. She didn't move and inch. Then my eyes moved down her body I see something unforgettable. My father was dead, turned. He had become a raised, an recently too. But it didn't matter, he was gone. Dead-alive eating away at my mother's abdominal region. He tore at the flesh I get a better view if his meal. Her large intestine was yanked out along with the stomach an liver. Her small intestine was being eaten ruthlessly. Blood was pooling around the two figures. Then I noticed it.
My sisters were there too. One was in the ground crying while the other had a terrified expression plastered on their face. The older one was standing a few feet away from the corpses, gripping a gun tightly in her trembling hands. The one that was on the ground crying her eyes out was actually trapped under the weight of my miter and father. She desperately tried to yank her leg out from under the dead body, but to no avail. My mind at the moment was screaming and yelling at me to go help them, to go save them and be a hero. However, my body did not react at all. Not even a single twitch. I slowly blinked as if time were being slowed down. I watched in to see what would happen next.
My father finally picked up the sound of my sister whimpering and growled. He set down the intestine he was devouring and started to crawl towards her. She struggled harder and more tears streamed down her cheeks. My other sister finally snapped out of her frozen state and took action. She forced her hand to move and aimed the gun towards my father's head. She shut her as and pulled the trigger. He fired a few times more just in case. When she opened her eyes she saw that my father had gone limp with a hole in the back of his head. She looked at my mother an saw a hole in her head too. My sister was unharmed yet traumatized. Then my sister lost it. She dropped the gun and began to back up. That was her mistake. The noise from the gun being fires alerted the nearby raised. He backed up right into a small group of raised. Try grabbed her and began to tear her apart. She let out blood curdling screams as fresh blood poured out of her body. The raised sank their teeth deep into her flesh and tore of chunk of it.
My other sister was shocked and terrified to see what was happening to her. She began to whimper, loud. Some I the raised noticed her and limped towards her. She desperately tried to free herself but it was all in vain. They reached her and started feasting in her. It was only then that I acted. But only to ensure Larry's and my safety. With my machete I chopped away at the raised. Once they were dead I looked to my sisters. The oldest one was dead by then so I took care of the turning process. I stomped on her head, successfully smashing it. Them I looked to my other sister. Her eyes were screwed shut in pain. She was bit in several areas, missing some chunks of flesh. I sigh and in one swift movement, I stab her in the head. She went limp, signifying that she was dead. I leave back to the store. Shortly after Larry comes out of the broken glass doors. "Did you hear those screams?" He asked me. "Nope, didn't hear a thing." I lie to his face, not wanting to explain what I saw. We went home and I acted as if nothing happened.
-note- this is a very long short and I apologize. But this scene had been playing in my head over Andover and I just wanted to get it out there already so... Hope you enjoyed! -pancake out!
